Regarding the dust, not sure if its the same, but I had a parrot for a while and when her new feathers came in, the sheath the new feathers were cased in would break open and it created a tremendous amount of dust.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Did you ever figure out what made her sick because my Lefty (2 year old leghorn) is exhibiting the same symptoms. I never would have believed how attached we can become to them!
Ok, so I currently have 3 two-year-old hens (2 EEs & 1 Leghorn - had 2 of each, but the serial killer raccoon got one.) My coop is 4x4 with an attached run. When I first got the chickies, I was scared to let them out of the run, but my nerves have gotten much better about it! Now, they're...
How far does the skirting stick out from the run? I've seen a fox circling our coop/run for the past 3 mornings. I'm too afraid to let the chickies out before going to work and now they're being held hostage until someone comes home to let them out! I hate this.
I got my first egg today too!!! AND it came from a 16 week (on the nose) old leghorn! It does make you feel like a proud parent! BIG Congrats to you!!!

I'm beginning to think zip ties are taking the lead from duct tape when it comes to "Hillbilly Chic!" I love the whiskery effect.
That washing machine (or dryer?) Has to be my favorite so far! LOL
Wow, you guys really are great! Thanks for sharing. He's a little happier today, except that he had to go back to the depot for more pvc connectors for the run. It occurred to me that at least part of the reason it must be so meticulous is that when his contractor friends see it, it must pass...
Ok, so he doesn't share my "reuse it" gene because he is a professional contractor who says that if you don't build it out of solid material it will fall apart and he'll have to rebuild it again later. $600 later I'm getting an earfull of "stuff"!!! I'm trying to stay calm and zen like but I...
