I have a small separate run/coop that I will put my broodies in I want to break. They don't like the coop so they just roost outside. It takes just a few days from being separated from the nests. I cant block off my nesting boxes because i have 13 hens. But I've had 4 go broody at the same time.
I use a poop hammock under my roost. Its made of empty feed sacks. Its easy to clean and change out. We just sweep it out daily and change it out every now and again.
This was my initial build. I don't have a walk in coop but my run is. My coop is elevated to allow chickens more "run"...
Thanks everyone for the replies. I sure hope so. I have one that's about a month younger that I am hoping is a pullet also. I'll post some pictures later.
My little broody silkie satfor about 3 or 4 weeks before I let her keep eggs. I gave her 4 eggs. On day 6 I candles them and one was infertile. She continued to sit. She hatched all of them. On hatch day, all had pipped and i took this picture after she got up for her morning forage.
She took...
I'm pretty sure mine were roosting on their own at 5 weeks for sure. We had some evenings down in the 60s. From what i read. If they are huddled together and noisy, they aren't happy and probably cold. But if they are feathered then they should do fine.
Ok...I ordered a pet quality blue silkie from ideal poultry. I ended up with 2, I think. Both were grey babies. One lighter than the other. And they have grown to be one black rooster and one dark grey hen. Are they considered blue? How would you tell?
This is mr. Fancy pants as a baby

From what I read Pekin and cochins are the same bird. Cochin is the name used in the US and pekin is used in other countries. But I also dont know much. I've only had chickens for just under a year now. Haha
Our first flock. See the post below from coop construction to growth of our 10 original bantam chicks.

1 year-ish update:
So my daughters deciding to trade my favorite white frizzle (ended up being a roo) for a little bantam Easter egger. We...
This is an gray bantam Easter egger crossed with either black silkie rooster or black frizzle cochin bantam rooster.
Light skin...dark feet and 4 toes. Guesses on gender and also likely father?
So I know the mom is a gray Easter egger or aracauna bantam and the father is either a black silkie or black frizzle cochin bantam. It has 4 toes. Dark legs but light colored skin. Any guesses on gender?

Better pictures of the black Easter egger cross. Any ideas on gender with these pics? Mom is gray Easter egger and dad is either black silkie or black frizzle cochin. Week 7
The two silkie crosses dont have anything for combs and waddles right now (but also early) Based on feathering like their mothers and what little I've read about silkie genetics for rooster and color of skin that these will pass on. I was thinking pullets also.
This one has either a black frizzle cochin (I think this is father) or black silkie for father and a gray Easter egger for mama. Dark greenish legs and light skin with 4 toes.
