    Second season pearl guineas nesting

Thank you for recording your observations. Our pipping keet did not make it and we have other chicks under the broody, as well as keets purchased from Tractor Supply. Mother hen is tolerant of such a large family.

What do ppl do for rattlesnakes on farms?

The poultry yard snake count is now three: Two rats, swallowing my guinea eggs out of the ground nest, and one rattlesnake found between the small coops where the meat turkeys are kept. In catching any snake, control of the head is key. In the rattlesnake's case, trap the head right behind the...

    Second season pearl guineas nesting

Wednesday under the heat dome, and the rat snakes are out. Two found in my guinea approved nesting conditions. I still have eggs left, but no sign of nesting behavior. No nice little clutch of eggs. No worries--a buff orp in the hen house is broody, so I put some guinea eggs underneath her...

    Second season pearl guineas nesting

It is Friday and of my two "guinea friendly" nest sites in the coop, one clutch is growing in number. I might try to adjust the second nest site to make it attractive to the females.

    Second season pearl guineas nesting

In the guinea coop I have a four sided masonite lean-to. It forms a top, back wall, side walls and a long hinged lid covers the front. The side walls are triangles. DH made a little gate in the large lid and the remaining screened lid is now covered in cardboard. It is very spacious inside...

    Blind turkey

My experience as a backyard homesteader: the turkey poults went into the brooder with chicks and keets. No blackhead disease. Also my experience: A blind poult may have more going on in its little body than may be overcome, and the outcome will be sad. I hope for the best.

Thank you for your response Bob. I don't find many Storey Publications to read about guinea fowl, so my own eyes and the posts here are my textbooks.

    Second season pearl guineas nesting

This is the first season that one male guinea and his harem of six female guineas are hiding their eggs in their super-secret guinea nests--underneath trees, behind an old door frame leaning against a fence post. It is the second nesting season for the male and two or three of the females. In...

    Two lame guinea hen chicks

What nutrition does the guinea feed have? I had limping guinea keets last summer and I selected DuMor Duck feed, 20% protein. It also has B vitamins and aminos that ducks need to keep their leg and foot issues at bay. A very knowledgeable guinea keeper is on BYC, let us tag @R2elk . R2elk...

    Guinea Fowl, male or female?

Your beautiful guinea keet looks like a female. My male guinea has caruncles on his nose like a turkey or a Muscovy duck. He also has only the "machine gun" alarm cry. My guinea females can also alarm but they do also call "buck WHEAT, buck WHEAT" all day.
