Looks rather like a Black Duck hen,,, Most wild birds will re nest if they lose theirs for some reason, IE lay more eggs some will try over and over again. Years ago right outside Bodega Bay Ca. I saw a Quail run across the road with 5 or 6 babies in Late September that were just a few days old...
Look at the eyes notice the ring around it like you see in pheasants , look at the primaries on the wings etc etc.. Only chicken in the pen was the rooster and the egg was hatched by a Silver Leghorn who thinks her purpose in life is to sit on eggs ..
Here is an Olandsk -- Yellow Golden cross . Just a pup yet but looks a lot like his Olandsk dad. This happened because we have a spare young rooster and he was getting his butt kicked in all the other pens so we put him in with the goldens. Seems to be doing great
Most predators are deathly afraid of humans so human scent will keep them away, may seem gross but peeing around the outside of your pen and/or hanging a shirt you have worn a lot but not washed, hang on the pen . Coons are difficult as they are not that afraid of people . They can get through...
I learned this lesson the hard way years ago. No don't keep them together !!! the quail are the problem they will peck the vents of the larger Pheasants and it will kill some before you notice there is a problem. Might be OK for a little while if they are the same age but as the Pheasants get...
LOl funny in the cartoon they go beep beep but in reality sound like a deep voiced dog whining lol.
I agree bobwhites to the unfamiliar will sound like someone whistling and it is a pleasant sound.
Pheasant roosters are all noisy well except for WC Kalij they seem quiet except when something...

Saw the EBay eggs was hoping to find...
Does anyone know of any Hatchery that is producing them this year ?
I've seen a few on Ebay ,, Strombergs use to carry them but not any more . Anyone know of anyone producing them or any leads ? Thanks...
Kind of late to this one but Yes you can get them to breed any time of year. Those that breed game birds for meat do this all the time. They keep their layers like many keep chickens, inside, temp controlled and adjustable lighting. The lighting being the most important as it is what tells a...

They are pale birds and the hens seem to have a lot of white. Barring in their tales ? maybe maybe not but they are unusual looking Golden's
Curious, what do you think they are mixed with? I ask because other than an Amherst whjich would make a darker bird what could you cross with and still look like a golden
If it was rodent poison you would have likely seen some blood on the duck, eyes mouth, vent. It is an anti coagulant IE kills by causing them to bleed out internally .
The stuff in the cup looks kind of like Miracle Grow fertilizer , not something good for horses lol
Hay is not a good...
