I had an armadillo making tunnels in two flowerbeds on one side of the house. Tried trapping, moth balls, etc. Finally got a large container of cayenne pepper and dumped it in the holes. It left. I'm going to put cayenne pepper around in the coop and see if that keeps rodents r-u-n-n-o-f-t!
I've been selectively tossing a few of the dog's chicken treats out when I see neighbor cats out there. Makes them come around more often, and help out; especially at night. Unfortunately, my beagle hates cats, but helps with rat catching. I have recently acquired a high grade slingshot. I am...
I don't have a pic yet. Just wanted to pass on. Don't throw away your all non-stick and plastic cookie sheets and trays. I use a hodgepodge of plastic trays. I do deep litter on top. Add alfalfa and wood chips as the year goes on, as needed. Pull out and dump in the compost twice a year. (That's...
If they did have it, you'd probably see death of at least some of them before they got out of the brooder and in with the rest of your flock. I read somewhere it takes out young ones fairly quickly. I'd keep them separate for sure. If any died, I'd be worried.
I have extended the run and covered the extension with canvas tarp. Everything is wire meshed in. Keeping the girls locked in until this is over. I have rubber clogs just for going in to do work in there and disposable bootie covers I bought on amazon. When I rake and clean in the run, I wear an...
Ok, well, I just put mine in the oven to bake it for them. I was afraid to give it to them raw. Thought it might swell and clog them up. Ok. Now I know!
My chickens must be trippin' all the time. Ipomea spp. (SWEET POTATO VINES); entire plant; plant contains LSD-related hallucinogens; may contain toxic levels of nitrates. My garden is full of these and they eat them a lot. I've never seen them eat the holly.
My speckled sussex, Lacy, is horrible about this. They have food, water, stuff to climb on, stuff to swing on, and free range the whole back yard. She still insists on wandering around the back yard squawking her head off.
Yes, she's a little Sicilian Buttercup. I don't mind her laying little white eggs. I'm really glad to see them. It's surprising how happy I get when my feather-babies lay me eggs.
Little Mia is a chicken.
She is smaller than the other chickens.
The big chickens lay big brown eggs.
Little Mia wasn’t laying big brown eggs.
She wasn’t laying any eggs at all.
Momma thought she’d never lay an egg.
Poor Little Mia.
She tried and tried, but she didn’t lay an egg...
I know. He's so sweet. My landscaper has had his eye on Ivan, and is coming to pick him up in an hour. I tricked Ivan into coming inside, with dinner rolls. He's sulking in the dog crate.
