Thanks all - yes I've had chickens for 4 years but had reduced down to only 2 due to having to move. These new ones are separated off, on a medicated feed and plenty of space and grass. After reading your messages I think I'll give them a couple of days to settle then clean them up one by one.
I have inherited 6 birds from someone who no longer wanted them and hadn't been looking after them great. They all seem to have bare abdomens and smelly messy vents. I have attached a photo. Is this vent gleet? They seem mostly active but I've only had them 12 hours so not watched them for...
Thanks still no sign of any egg from her but I've checked her pretty thoroughly. Crop fine, ears and eyes clear, no mites, abdomen feels fine so guess I just wait
Yes as I'm in UK this type of thing usually requires a vet visit for which the cost is prohibitive. I've got them on flubenvet but still no sign of her laying but she does seem to be more alert and comb a little less pale...
Do people think I need to be worming everyone? She usually lays most days so it's strange she isn't. We have had some hot weather but none of the others stopped laying. Her comb seems a little pale but she's eating and drinking.
Both hatched, one i did have to assist. Bizarrely the one which hatched by itself ended up with leg issues and couldn't walk and we ended up culling it. Fortunately found 2 chicks locally same age as the one we were left with so the 3 are very happy together!
Very interesting i think you've hit on what it is. I've managed to bandage the joint and have got it in a sling. Will just have to keep up with trying to water and feed it.
If I hold it up it seems to be able to hold weight on it's left leg. It holds the right leg up. It's such a cutie - I really want to help it be strong.
I have a day old chick who doesn't stand just scoots and flap about on it's tummy. Is this splay leg or could it be something else - one of it's feet seems a bit twisted. It hatched by itself.
Yes they rested 24 hours before putting in the incubator. This evening was day 18 so stopped turning them. Here are some photos. Darker egg is pretty difficult to see if anything is moving - think it is.
I have 2 eggs from a batch of 6 which were a long time in the post and took a week to get to me. Right now these 2 are developing and wriggling but air cells come from the fat end of the egg right down one side. I am wondering which is the best way to position them for hatching?
I have 2 gold laced bantam wyandottes hatched 16th June so now 8 weeks old - I need to sell them as I don't have permanent place for them to live as I have too many chickens including 3 cockerels at the moment!
Am I right I have a boy and a girl, just want to be sure I advertise them right...
