ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

I usually keep mine locked up in their run (it is pretty huge) while I'm away at work because I don't want to attract anything or ring a dinner bell haha I am looking into motion sense lights and cameras just because I love these freaking ducks and I can't bear the thought of something...

ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

oh my gosh yes!! I spend more time working on these ducks than I do anything else on the weekend, to the point I won’t make plans if I know I need to finish a project  I think I added the photos in the correct order, we have ourselves 2 layers of protection from any further harassment

ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

I have them separated by chicken wire, and a play yard fence - their house is in the middle of the run so it was a feat to separate them with what I have on hand... inside their house the extra panels of the play yard keep them apart. I don’t think I have short pieces of plywood, I’ll go look...

working on shoring up their febce, babies and big “kids” have switched sides of the run and I hear screaming - my freakin drake has one of the babies through the chicken wire fence!! it took all my willpower not to choke him right then and there! I let the big kids free range because I...

    When to move ducks outside

they haven’t had a heat lamp for several weeks, they’re feathered but I do see some areas of fluff still, but I wanted them out while it’s still relatively mild, my original plan was Thanksgiving but I think the weather might not cooperate with my plan :)

    When to move ducks outside

the babies have been out in a play yard in the run with the big ducks for about 2 weeks about every other day or so when weather allowed, I am planning to keep them separated but all I have is the play yard which seems unfair to keep the 6 inside of for much longer but it’s about 18 sq ft of...

    When to move ducks outside

I’m in a similar situation, they’re about 8 weeks but mine are blue swedish... they’re pretty much fully feathered, been out daily but as the weather cools I do want them outside for the winter... can I keep them in the duck house for a few days to get them acclimated? it’ll be 60 during the day...

ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

I have 2, one just found himself a new home (he’s leaving Sunday!) so keeping 1 duck penned up seems less daunting, he can stay in the baby pen

ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

thank you! I was worried about putting them out too soon and this just makes me feel so much better about keeping them with me a little longer!! they still have some fuzz here and there but they’re only 6 weeks, I was figuring around 10 to start staying outside for good. Should I re-home my...
