Feeding them peels would be maybe once a week and each bird would not consume a lot after its spread out between them all. I am getting a new egg layer feed next week since the previous owner only was giving them cracked corn feed. I am giving them oyster shells as well in small amounts to help...
I will not be giving them any green potatoes. They are all white potatoes that are boiled then cut the peel off with some of the inner potato attached still. I have given them a little bit before and they love it but then a friend of mine told me not to give them the peels so I was looking it...
So I have 15 chickens in my flock. They are all between 1-2 years old. I have looked up as much as I can about feeding them potato peels. I work in a restaurant which boils about 100 pounds of potatoes a day and then we cut the skin off. They are all white potatoes.
I have read so many website...
This is a great and simple solution. I think that is what I will end up doing.
Thank you for the great information! This helps me a lot. I am currently working on a inside view of the coop. The roosts will be below the top ventilation. Cross breeze shouldn't be an issue at all inside. During...
With those gone is that too much air flow during winter season? We can get really low temperatures at times. I do not know exactly how low of temperatures chickens can handle.
I am not sure how to display the dimensions but the coop is 8x8 and the run is 12x8.
I was thinking about adding another window to the back of the coop that is just a solid wall and might end up making the other windows larger.
I am currently working on the inside view and will post that once...
I have made a 3d model of the coop design. More details and also everything is to ratio now. Sizes are measured exact to what I plan to make. I did move a few things to different locations though. Changed the one side to a full size door to be able to get into and clean the coop when needed...
The plan is to make the coop an 8x8x6 size. I will have 2 equal height roosts for the chickens towards the center of the coop. The vinyl floor will have pine chips on it as padding and for easy cleaning. I will probably start out with checking it weekly then going from there to see how often I...
The coop is elevated. It will be around 3 1/2 feet off the ground. I will make sure it will be tall enough that my wheelbarrow is right below the level of the clean out so I can easily clean the coop when I need to.
The door to walk into the run is a full sized door. The run is 8 feet tall so...
It was a quick and not extremely detailed layout. I have the fine details in my head mostly.
The layout of certain things like the feeding tube isn't exactly where it will be in the final layout. It was mainly to give me an idea of where I will be placing things and which walls it will be on...
Here is a design draft of the coop layout.
Both the water system and feeder system will be made out of a PVC pipe self feeding set-up. The water will have poultry nipples attached and the feed will be in a trough style.
The nesting box will open with a flip down panel instead of the roof...
I will be building and getting the chicks for next spring. I wanted to have all the plans and materials prepared over the winter so I won't be scrambling at the end.
Yeah when I did the math I for some reason added an extra zero at the end for the sq ft.
I know in the future years we will probably end up adding more to the flock. Might end up sending some of the original birds to get butchered at some point but most likely wont be for at least 3...
Hello Everyone!
This is my first post here and I am hoping this is the right area for it. My family and I have finally decided after a few years of tossing the idea around to get some egg laying chickens to have in our back yard. I will be building a coop and run for them as well as let them...
