I have a blue runner that was sexed as a female from a hatchery. However, this duck is extremely quiet. When I pick the duck up it barely makes a sound, while all my other ducks quack loudly. Today I noticed tail feathers which have a slight curl to them. This duck is currently 13 weeks old. Is...
No, they don't have any supplemental heat. I'll put a thermometer out tonight and see how low it gets. What temperature would be the lowest it could go and still be fine for the ducklings? 50°??
I only have an ecoglow that I used for the ducklings when they were smaller.. Heat lamps scare me too! Lol. I think I'll just wait until all of the ducklings are fully feathered. Hopefully no more than 2 weeks haha.
Thank you!!
The 8 week old is the only one that is fully feathered, and 7 week old not far behind.. So maybe I'll have to wait another week or two for the 6 week olds.
I just can't wait to get them out of my house lol
I have 4 ducklings, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 8 weeks. I let them outside in a pen all day and then bring them back inside my house at night to sleep. The night temperatures are in the 40s. Do you think they would all be fine sleeping in the coop now or would it be better to wait?
Good! I'm glad, she is my favorite one. She looks way different from the rest of my flock & I was worried because her hackle feathers are a lot longer. She is the only Ameraucana so that is probably why she looks so different!
Hi!
I have a 10 week old Blue (Splash) Ameraucana that I recieved from Meyer Hatchery. This bird has always been the runt and worried me greatly since it was so small compared to all the rest of the chicks. It has since had a big growth spurt, although it is still a lot smaller than all of the...
I thought the crop was empty. When I touched that area it almost felt squishy & she would open her beak
Yes, I have provided them with grit since I first recieved them. I thought her crop was empty. But when I just felt it, it kind of felt almost squishy and she would open her beak each time...
Hi,
I have a 10 day old Black Australorp who is very lethargic and not eating or drinking. She just goes under the heater and sleeps.
She was fine all day yesterday, I left for a few hours in the evening and when I returned she was just standing in the corner of the brooder while all the...
I'm planning on using it for bedding in my coop as well. I was reading through some other posts on BYC and someone mentioned they wouldn't use it in the brooder because of the chicks eating some of the fine pieces, post #15.
