Rooster needs new home - Central Vermont

Thanks! I found the state thread and someone there has offered to post to local FB poultry club for me. I've also posted to CL and given a flyer to the local feed store - the gal there says people ask for roosters fairly regularly as the season progresses, so I'm hopeful! :)

    Vermont

Hi Pyxis, Thanks! I've heard of Vermont Bird Fanciers but alas no, I'm not on Facebook and don't really know anyone who is... I could write up something with photos and contact info, and perhaps someone here who's in the club might be kind enough to post it for me? I'm reluctant to ask...

    Vermont

Hi Vermonters, I'm in Brandon and have an "accidental" cockerel, an Easter Egger about 4-5 weeks old (from Paris FU) - Can anyone help me find a flock for him? I have only five girls and a fairly small run, and simply don't want to keep a rooster. I realize this happens a lot and perhaps the...

Rooster needs new home - Central Vermont

Hello BYCers, I have an Easter Egger "pullet" that turned out to be a cockerel.... Not unusual, I know. But I'm looking to rehome him (also not unusual, I know). He's handsome and healthy, a bit over 4 weeks old, and has only been in contact with his two hatchmates. He has a good quality diet...

3-week EE - looks boyish already...??

That's what I'm thinking too. Thanks! I'll try to remember to post a few more pics as s/he grows so we can see the changes. As a side questions, do pea-combed hens ever show up with three-row combs, or is that100% exclusively a male trait? I'm guessing the red shoulders are exclusively a male...

3-week EE - looks boyish already...??

I'd have thought 3 weeks old might be too young to tell 😳, but little Fez is pretty big, bigger than two other EEs the same age -- and the wider comb and a few red shoulder feathers seem to suggest cockerel...... Is it still too early to say for certain? The other two have tiny skinny yellow...

Let's Talk Nice About Our Roosters!

This is Rosencrantz, he was supposed to be a pullet ... he's coming up on three months old now, he and five pullets. Also in the flock is our 14-month old Australorp hen, Belly, who was the only survivor of a rogue dog breaching three months ago . So far "Rosie" is skittish and tentative, and...

I can sex your pullets and cockerels!

Hi, what a fun thread! This one was sold as "Americana" so I'm not really sure what s/he is, an Ameraucana or EE? S/he is about 10 weeks old. His (?!) friends in the photos are the same age. :)

Lame chicken (not Marek's) - A rare account of RECOVERY.

I have a chicken who went suddenly lame, with no apparent initial cause, and who has been making a stunning recovery. I'm writing this for those folks who are, like I did, spending frustrating hours searching forums and articles trying to find an answer as to what to do with their bird. My now...

hen wont puff up in the cold

Thanks, this is my first year with chickens. I probably wouldnt have thought much of it, were she not also gimpy. And I only have the five other hens on which to to base her behavior. Everyone else looks like a fluffy basketball. :)

hen wont puff up in the cold

Hi chicken people, I have a hen (7-month Easter Egger) who has been somewhat lame for about a week or so, that's problem A which I've been looking into. However another issue with her came up -- tonight, a fairly chilly November night, on the roost i noticed she is not puffing up her feathers...
