Hi now does anyone have a lavender orpington rooster with a barred rock hen cross? We will be joining our flock for the summer and I am curious to see what the offspring could be.
Put these in about 7:30 PM last night after 3 days at steady 100°. I got up this am to the thermometers reading 106 and 104. Took lid off and got it back down to 99 and staying steady there. Today's eggs are going in out little Janoel12 to see if we can get at least some of them to work out...
12 hrs in woke up to incubator at 106° to 110° will candle at day 5 or 6 I told the kids we wouldn't candle this batch but I guess we will. We lost our rooster on the 18th so only have a few days to see the outcome collecting more eggs just to make sure we can replace any that are not making it.
These are our three babies. Can we tell this soon if they are pullets? The first one is the Lavender orpington rooster with the Buff hen chick.
The other two are barred rock chicks. Let me know what you think
Here are the 3 that made it to full growth and hatching. 2 Barred rock purebred and a lavender orpington rooster cross with the buff orpington hen. They are all less than 24hrs old. Just moved to the brooder because I forgot to take out the shelf tray so they lacked headroom.
Ours will have to be in the house for a bit. Incubation was done in the laundry room as it's the warmest room of the house. Our kids got the incubator for Christmas and we are willing to keep them in as long as we need to so it's turning out just fine.
Dead egg sorry I am not on here much. We hatched one out and two more pipping as I type. My daughter went to bed thinking none of hers would make it but one is peeping and pipped. Looks like we should have over %50 hatch rate on a -1°F night. Yes they are in our laundry room so they are safe...
To me, my kids are 11 and 14 they should be able to handle the life and death of hatching chickens by this point. they know that not all of them are guaranteed to make it still.
