    Livestock Guardian Dogs

After the 8th death within about 4 days to a raccoon, we're considering livestock Guardian breeds for the chickens. I've had trouble with raccoons and oppossums before, and I'm really, really tired of it. So basically, does anyone know anything about them? What breeds to look at, what they're...

    3 month mix-breed gender?

I have a 3 month old blue Sumatra/speckled Sussex mix. It was wing feather sexed at a day old and I thought it was a cockerel, but now I'm still not sure. I'm finally sure that it's a mix breed at least, but gender is still a question. If it was pure Sumatra, I'd say cockerel. If it was pure...

Questions regarding a silkie, Sumatra, mystery pullet, and turkeys

So, multiple questions for those who may know... I have a silkie that I got a month or two ago. I can't tell if it's a pullet or a cockeral, I added a picture but if I need to I can get a better one. Second of all, there's a (very cuddly) cockerel that hatched today. I put some purebred...

What is your favorite chicken breed?

My favorites, in no particular order: Sumatras: My favorite breed. They're flighty, and seasonal layers, but they're gorgeous, and I have a hen who raised a clutch of chicks last year and is currently sitting on another one, and so far has had far more success hatching that breed than multiple...

    Pet starling and quail?

No, if I do get one I was thinking about calling a wildlife rescue to see if they get any orphaned ones in.

    Pet starling and quail?

I'm considering getting a pet starling. I'm building an aviary for my button quail soon, would I be able to keep a starling with them? Or at least let the starling in with them sometimes to have more room to fly? Would they harass each other or would they be okay?

    Raising a single chick

Maybe in a month or so, I'm pairing some up from that breed and another to try and get eggs from them. Hopefully it'll work better next time.

    Raising a single chick

I was half way through writing a response for a reply when I had to go somewhere, came back and checked and she died. Really bummed since those were the my first chicks of that breed, but I tried my best... Thanks for the suggestions but it's too late now :(

    Raising a single chick

Basically, I put 9 eggs in the incubator, 5 were fertile, 2 hatched and 1 died a few days later. Now I have one little girl left and she's in the incubator temporarily (long story short that's the only way she can stay warm enough until she can go in a proper brooder). I read some other threads...
