Thank you for your opinion! We were concerned as we’ve never seen anything like this on any of our birds. I do hope it just stays as is and doesn’t change.
Her diet is Green Mountain organic feed, either layer or maintainer depending on what they need. For three birds, we give about 2.5 cups of food a day and they don’t eat it all. They also get frozen peas (probably too many), frozen blueberries, tomatoes once every week or two and grubblies...
Hi everyone,
One of my babies, Southpaw, has strange growths under her wings. To describe her, I’d say she’s a runt. She is two years old and by far the tiniest of all of our flock. She is so small that when she eats and her crop is full, she ends up at a 45 degree angle. She also has never...
Thank you everyone for the support. You all know how hard it is to watch a baby suffer when you can’t really help.
@Miss Lydia @WannaBeHillBilly our vet is used to chickens, we have her first ducks. Do you think she’d be able to tell if it’s a tendon or ligament issue? I know if humans, you...
She actually stood up to get peas out of her water bowl today! We haven’t seen that for a week or more. We’re hoping the rest is helping but it’s so hard to watch her struggle.
@Dougdilman i was trying to get a video but it’s hard to get the right angle and close enough that she doesn’t get nervous I’m going to pick her up and “torture” her. I did post two videos near the beginning of this thread.
It is soooo hard to see babies injured and having a hard time. And...
I just observed her walking. It does seem like her knee is the issue, but it’s super hard to tell. I really need a duck whisperer! She holds it out to the side a bit, but I think she’s just doing that so she doesn’t put weight on it. She kind of touches her toes when she tries to move around...
My husband just observed her moving a bit. She seems to be unable or unwilling to straighten her knee on the left and she’s keeping it out to the side, away from her body. Does that tell us anything?
@WannaBeHillBilly you think we should flex her hip and wrap her leg up against her body? I’m just try to be clear on that. Will it make her hip worse if it’s wrapped and flexed?
@Miss Lydia you’re right! I have mom nerves I guess. If only she could talk to us!
@Miss Lydia we’ve used towels in the past so that’s not an issue. She does let me hold her without any issue but we certainly don’t care about a wet towel. I worry she’ll hate it and it will cause her stress and make things worse. Or she could absolutely love it...it’s so hard to tell...
I rushed a bit through my last couple posts, so I want to make sure everyone has all the information.
When I pick her up, she puts her belly/breast against my chest, her neck on my shoulder and usually “stands” on my hand. When we picked her up to examine her, she got in that position. She was...
@Miss Lydia we have not yet, but we will get her in a tub! We have dogs who need to never be near the ducks so it’s difficult to find the exact right time!
@WannaBeHillBilly what is a duck swing? Sounds intriguing!
The odd thing is she didn’t actually do anything to injure it that we saw...
@WannaBeHillBilly she doesn’t get new bumbles but her foot will swell periodically and take a week or so to go back down. She almost always has a scab on it, too. But that’s her right foot. She’s now favoring her left.
As far as sepsis - she’s not acting sick, she’s acting injured. And she’s...
Yes, our vet saw her. When she had bumble foot, she was on antibiotics and the vet cut into her foot, then we cut into her foot many times. Because of that, her pad is large and she walks with a limp favoring her right side. We have no idea what’s happening with her left side now.
The vet saw...
I’m pretty sure we can rule out sepsis because she did a full course of antibiotics. I took two videos. She’s actually moving a tiny bit better today. Her nickname is Poop or Poopie so you may hear us call her that. She’s a duck, so it’s fitting! LOL
Hi everyone,
I searched and didn’t find anything that seems to apply to my duck so I’m hoping someone can help. One of my Cayuga ducks, Miss Chevious, can’t walk. She will be three years old in May. She lives inside with two ducklings we got her who are now full grown. She has chronic bumble...
Does it make sense that this could be an inner ear thing?
I’m a nurse, but ducks are completely different than people, which is frustrating LOL Because she is eating, acting normally and has no other issues than the neck thing, I thought of inner ear. But I could be completely wrong. We will...
The duck only does this when swallowing...so yes, eating and drinking.
I’ve never looked at a duck’s ear. Do I just move the down/feathers on her head the wrong way and I’ll see them?
