Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

If I ever figure it out I will. It's like a chicken version of "The Happening".

Oh, yes. He sprays by air so it's very likely.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

Most definitely want to clean and sanitize just to be safe, but I had other animals to worry about and wanted to keep them safe. Lots of rescue dogs on the farm. Don't want them eating the birds and becoming infected. Or the cats getting into it.

It is. I have never in my life, ever heard of anything like this and could hardly believe what I was seeing when it happened.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

Sounds likely. Now I wonder how I could protect them from something like this. Can't ask the neighbor not to spray his field.

^my question has been answered. It all makes sense now.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

I hope that it is something like feed contamination rather than a virus or a parasite. Virus or parasites are my biggest fear. Just a shame and serious disappointment to go through raising them and caring for them as carefully as possible and then to lose them so quick and being unable to stop it.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

It's unfortunate. I feel very bad my babes had to suffer, but hadn't suspected until it was too late. But my suspicion is on the feed. But I wanted to ask here and see if there was possibly something else like some sort of parasite that could cause it or a virus and if I needed to worry about...

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

The feed seems fine date/appearance and all, but I am suspecting this could be the only thing imaginable. Maybe contaminated with something. But am still confused as to how in the world this could cause mass suicide. Never even heard of mass suicide in chickens before.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

No. Burned for fear of virus or parasite. No visible injuries on them when I looked though. Just slammed their bodies into the sides of the cage until dropping dead.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

No birds left. Whatever took them took them all. Nothing rotten. Feed is stored inside the house in the mud room. (room where you take off boots and coats) Despite people asking, there is nothing inside the pen. Absolutely 100% certain of this otherwise I wouldn't be asking on here scratching...

I was unable to. Tried to stop the first one, but did no good. Kept doing it.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

I sat there and watched them kill themselves. The inside had nothing in there. You have to go inside to feed and get eggs. There was nothing. They appeared to be doing it for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Chickens going crazy and killing themselves

Yes. I have been in there. I have to go inside to feed. Nothing in there.
