What would be the cause of one hen out of 37, to have a dirty butt and not laying anymore? Maybe one a week if that. ( she’s my only cream legbar and my only blue layer which is why I know she’s not laying)
She’s had this dirty poopy butt for a few weeks now and she’s the only one.She is eating...
Back on November I purchased 15 black sexlink pullets from a hatchery. They are 12 weeks old. I keep hearing that black sexlink cockerels will be barred ( and I did end up with one by mistake, it is barred, you can see him in the background behind the waterer) . Why do so many of these pullets...
Darn, I thought so. I knew the day I opened the box at the post office. I was just hoping I was wrong. I kept looking at the tail feathers and and comb but was too hopeful.
Is this a pullet or cockerel?
*12 weeks old
*Came with my order of 15 day old
Sexlink pullets
*All of the chicks were all black
with this one ( the only one) having a
light white patch on its head.
I figured it was a cockerel right off the bat sense black sexlink chicks are born...
Great.🙁I ordered and payed for 15 pullets from a hatchery and got one “bonus do good egg layer”, I got two cockerels out of them. This one and a black sex link. I don’t know how a hatchery can mistake a male from female sex link , when I noticed it the day I got them from the post office. Um big...
Is this an Easter Egger or something else? It’s a “bonus do good” chick that came with my order of layer chicks. They are about 8 weeks old.
I haven’t had Easter eggers so I don’t know what males and females look like at 8 weeks old.
Is there an alternative to bags of chicken feed from the store that’s more economical for a 40+ chicken flock? Right now I’m spending $16 for a 50lb bag of pellets or crumble. Is it cheaper to custom mix things together or something? I will have 15 chicks coming in a few weeks so I know I have...
Me again… I think these are my last chickens in question this season. These are 5 week old Wyandottes. I’ve never had them before so don’t know what to expect for combs, wattles, and coloration. There are three. ( two pictures of one, two pictures of two) Is one of them a cockerel? They are...
Hi everyone. Is this RIR a roo ? It’s supposed to be a pullet but we know unfortunately a roo can get mixed in the bin my mistake. The first two pics are the same bird in question, the third pic is of both RIRs that were bought together, same age.
Thank you so much for feedback and help. I’m feeling more optimistic and we will see how it goes. When we first noticed it today ( don’t know why we didn’t before since we do daily chick brooder chores) I asked a friend about it and she said it won’t survive and to cull it. I’m glad I posted here!
Oh good! What an encouragement! Thank you😊
May I ask how old is your CB, and what you have to do to support it’s feeding? Do you have to do tube or torpedo feeding or anything like that? I imagine since my chicks beak is severe already, it might be like your pictured CB chicken when it’s grown.
This is such an encouragement! We have a lot of chickens, but this is one of two of my 11 year old daughter’s “pet” silkie chicks. So we shouldn’t cull him or her? We really don’t want to. Someone else ( not on here said it won’t thrive and to cull him.
We don’t mind the extra care with mash...
