She has been back to the vet for xrays and more treatment. The vet is not an avian vet but has treated birds before. Looks at this point like we are going to lose her.
HI All,
We have a 1.5 year old Crested Cream Legbar hen named Meriweather. She has been sneezing for about 2 weeks. We took her to the local vet about 8 days ago because she was open mouth breathing. He gave her a shot of steroids, ivermectin wormer and a course of Tylosin antibiotics for her...
Hi BYC friends.
We are a new crazy chicken family on Hatteras Island, NC. We currently have 12 hens that are all 1 year old. We are owned by 2 White Rocks, 2 Partridge Rocks, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Golden Buffs, 3 Crested Cream Legbars and 1 Rhode Island Red hen. 11 lay eggs and one is a free...
Hi All. We have a 1 year old crested cream legbar hen named Flora. Flora started laying at 24 weeks and was laying beautiful large blue eggs. Suddenly, she started to be listless for a few days each week and we realized she was laying internally. Sometimes she would lay an egg but usually she...
Thanks for the advice. She is one of 4 younger birds that we added later than the originals and she seems to be picked on by the others. I was wondering the same thing and we had discussed adding another nest box. Sometimes it seems everyone wants to lay at the same time.
So sorry for the trauma! We had a similar situation this past Sunday when a dog broke through our fencing and chased the hens. We thought we had lost one because it took an hour for her to come back. I imagine her instincts are strong to want to be "home" that she will come back if she can...
HI All,
I have 12 laying hens and 3 nest boxes. Our birds are free range during the day with access to the nest boxes all day. We have one hen, a Crested Cream Leg Bar, who is almost daily on the other side of the fence. Today, my husband followed her as she snuck under the fence, crossed the...
We have been finding poop in the nest box after the eggs have been layed for the day. We count the girls every night on their perch and clean the coop every morning so we know that no one is sleeping in the nest box. Poop is somewhat watery. Has anyone heard of this?
Well, we took her inside, gave her an epsom salts bath(which she loved). After the bath, she pooped, so not egg bound. She drank a large helping of Tums water and took a nap. Left her inside the house over night and this morning she is like a new bird. She ate her normal chicken feed, was harder...
