Hi! How is your bird now?
awwww that is so sweet! Looks so bad for her. You’ve tried ivomectin, I went through a similar thing with a young Silkie 3 months when I got her, flakey skin face and body (did not get so bad as yours, but I think yours may have an infection as well). I tried all sorts...
He’s a chicken, 7 months. My other chickens sometimes do cecal poops but this one is also more watery blood as pictured past two days over night, and I’ve only had him a week, so I’m not sure if it’s just normal for him. Or not..
Hi everyone!
Is there a formula somewhere for hen v rooster size or does it just depend on breed and manners? Eg should the hens weight to roosters weight not go below 1:2 for example (eg 500g hen and 1kg roo?)
Yes, this is an emergency, you need to keep her inside and bathe the wound as described above, cut away any feathers that are messy, antibiotics would be a good idea too.
Ok thanks, she’s running around and eating well, high protein food for molting. She’s doing a gradual whole body molt. She looks grumpy as I’m trying to take her picture!
Hi Tiffy,
Sorry about your hard times. I am fairly new to chicken keeping too and seem to have been learning all the hard lessons one by one. I did also get a sickness in my chickens after I got one new one and even though I quarrantined them, when I put her with the others they all got sick. I...
Hi there!
A d’uccle hen who has been going through her 18months moult has this purple comb. I’ve read that in some hens the moulting can cause the comb to change colour. She doesn’t seem to have other symptoms right now apart from the occasional sneeze and red around her eye (this could be...
Mine did the same thing, after we lost a roo she sat in the nest box 24 hours, then slept in the next box for 3 nights. She lost lots of feathers, I was so worried. Now she’s grown some nice new feathers, she’s around 12-18 months. However feather loss can also be a sign of illness so I’d pick...
If I wanted mine to go broody I’d feed them well, not take their eggs, make sure they are not disturbed too much so they can stay on the nest. Also it might depend on the season and day light hours which you can’t do much about.
Update: individual sweetcorn kernels (canned) was the thing that helped him to eat and drink. Thankfully he did survive and grew up to be a sweet much loved and fine rooster 🥰
