I'm addicted! I set 18 more last night in a bator for May hatching. I have another 12 in lockdown and four hatched in the last 24 hours! Oh and did I mention that my 12 from two weeks ago are trying to fly out of the brooder? And did I also mentioned I told DH no more and yeah then I set the...
Three days ago I told DH no more chickens to hatch as we had 12 in lockdown and 12 in the brooder bucket. He never got the chance to tell the guy who has been brining us the eggs.
Yesterday afternoon, the guy who had been bringing us the RIR eggs to hatch, brought me 18 more eggs! I...
I have a chick with an eye that is either sealed shut or missing! I think it's just not opened properly. The chick is only about 18 hours old, seems to be doing well otherwise but is still in a locked down bator as his brothers and sisters are hatching out. Should I worry and take him out now...
Rhode Island Reds is what I was told. We were given the eggs to hatch. I think I see a comb starting on one of the browns which leads me to believe a rooster.
I posted these in another thread but I'm so proud, I had to do it again. . .
This is our first hatch and we couldn't be happier. I have another dozen in lockdown and two chicks working their way out of the pip and zip stage.
We got ours from the eggs. A friend of ours brings us eggs in exchange for milk from the cows. He asked us if we wanted to hatch some and I said sure well now we're up to a dozen hatched and another dozen in lockdown. Since I'm so inexperienced I found this place invaluable.
I hope you...
Well here they are . . .
There are 12 in this bucket. Another 12 are in lockdown as I type. We think it's hilarious that I have four yellow and eight brown. You can see on the brown ones their wings that have grown in. On the yellows, their wings are a little more hard to see.
This...
So when can I move them into the yet to be built tractor? I am going to put some screen mesh over the bucket so the heat and chicks stay in. I didn't know they would get this advanced so quickly! Dang!
Oh my gosh my week old chicks are losing their minds! They keep flapping the wing feathers they have gotten and running around and pecking each other. I'm a little nervous about putting in the new hatchlings that are coming this week. Are they supposed to do this?
Thank you for asking this question. I have week old chicks in a brooder bucket now and another round of hatchlings underway (the first couple just pipped). I was worried about having them all in one bucket once they hatched.
He's dead! I just went to check on them cause they were raising a ruckus and he's was dead when I got there. I just buried him in the back yard deep and in a ziploc to keep the animals from digging him up.
I haven't given them anything but grain and water. This is our first hatch and so I'm learning as I go. His belly seems rather full like he's eating okay. I will go make up some hard boiled eggs and see if that helps. Thank you.
I have baby chicks that hatched starting on Saturday right up to Monday morning. I moved all of the good hatchers into a brooder bucket complete with feeder and shallow water dish and a red warming light. All seemed fine until just now when I noticed that one of my chicks, who had a strange...
