Being fairly new to chickens, I haven't heard of most of the breeds you named. Now I will have to look them up to see what they look like. I bought most of my chickens from Cackle Hatchery. And we also hatched a few of our own eggs from our chickens. Made for some pretty mixed birds.
I like your setup!! Has a vintage look to it, and your automatic door caught my eye! I want to install one on my coop as well, who manufactures your automatic door? I have one in mind, opens using solar power and has a screw drive system. How much land do your chickens have to roam on? And...
I've never had one jump out of the nesting box when I open it. In my research when I was building the coop, I heard that if your egg boxes open from the top, it can disturb the chickens because the instinct of being attacked from above, like from hawks is strong. Usually they just sit there and...
I have my egg boxes on the outside of my coop. You can see pictures of how I built them on my bio coop link. I like the door to open from the side down, it doesn't disturb the chickens when I open the door to check for eggs.
What a great coop!! You went to a lot more detail than mine, all the painting and cute dressings! I just went industrial, LOL! And I agree with you on how nice they look before the poop hits!. Well Done!! :thumbsup
Thank you very much, I enjoyed building it! If this is the chicken you were referring to, it's one of 7 Dark Brahma hens that I bought from Cackle Hatchery along with the Dark Brahma Rooster in 2017.
Build your own if you can, you'll get the size you want and the design you want. For the price of a bought kit coop, you can build your own larger coop for less. I built mine with hand tools and a chop saw. Good luck, and I would be happy to offer my advice from what I learned building mine.
I like your design, somewhat looks like mine, you can see my coop and my building of it by hitting the "My Coop" on my bio. I don't think you need to dig your predator perimeter down so deep, just make sure it goes out 2 feet all around the perimeter of your coop. And I didn't use any concrete...
