From my new understanding, those are the cream legbars. The silver ones are legbars, but with a silver base, so not 'perfect' legbars, and can't be called cream legbars.
Wow. Thanks for all of that info! I happen to like the looks of the silver hen, so I may continue with the silver to see where that leads a few generations from now.
Thanks again!
When I said unique, I meant different, not that everyone would want them. And I'm fine with their coloring. We have a lot of chickens here for selling hatching eggs, eating eggs and meat, so the Legbars are my 'pets' and not in the same role as the others we have. Now I'm looking forward to the...
Wait, so the silver roo and silver hen are unique? And why are they undesirable to CCL breeders? Because of the silver base?
I'm new to them. I accidentally got a cream legbar a year ago, in a group of other chicks. Had no clue what he was, but I liked him. He got hurt and had to be put down. I...
I'd like to see pictures of your crested cream legbars. I've always like the breed and recently got a cockerel and three pullets (they are about 4 months old). I'm concerned with the cockerel, as his comb is very curved. I'm thinking it's probably not good for breeding high-quality birds, but...
I wrapped it with VetWrap so there's nothing sticky to remove and nothing hard to chafe. He can stand, but anytime he tries to move he flips all around. Probably because he's been used to a bent hock. I'm hoping to see a little improvement tomorrow and hope he doesn't wear himself out too much...
He is walking around - well, not really walking - he can stand fine on the good leg and tries to get around. The bent one won't straigten so he's walking on the hock on that one, and kind of bounces around.
Is there something I need to do with the leg before splinting? Or just put the splint...
We're new to incubating and have incubated 3 batches so far. We have an egg turner, but when we take it out around day 17 we put the eggs in cartons pointed side down. My husband was told this was a good way to do it. Is this okay? Our first hatch was great. About 90% hatch. Second hatch wasn't...
I've got a chick that hatched the day before yesterday. It was stuck in the shell and I helped him out (I know - some people do this and some don't). He's healthy other than his legs. His toes on both feet were curled, so I put the bandaids on for 24 hours. The are correct now and he is walking...
We actually thought the white rooster was a hen for the longest time, since he stays in a group with another rooster and they get along. We've never seen this white rooster mount any hens at all. Doesn't even act like a rooster. Only started crowing recently. Apparently, he's just sneaky about it.
