Ok, I’ll go to the store this evening to get that :thumbsup What should I be going for dosage-wise (mg)? Also is it ok to put it in a little bit of banana everyday, as she won’t eat it with anything else? Or is that too much potassium for a chicken?
Also, if this is a virus, wouldn’t it have...
Sorry I meant that the maggots ate off her scabs, not the other chickens. The rest of the girls were very kind to her, fortunately, as she was the oldest of the flock and the matriarch. We did isolate her but then she got the flystrike which caused them to come off.
I’ll go out today and check...
Hello again,
In addition to my sick Wyandotte, I have a 5yo Australorp hen who, a couple months ago, seemed to get off-balance and started tipping on to her side. She will get up and precariously walk a few feet, then one of her legs will give out and she’ll fall over again. I have tried to...
Hi,
I have a 2yo golden laced Wyandotte that today started acting off. She’s walking stiffly with a wide stance, and keeps squatting down and trying to push something out her vent. I already stuck a finger up there and felt no blockages or eggs. At one point when she put her neck down to eat, a...
I also treated the coop with permethrin to prevent any more lice issues, and none of the hens themselves seem to have bad lice, as they are able to dust bathe.
Hi, sadly she died a few weeks ago after contracting flystrike. They ate off all the scabs and I was trying to soak her to get the maggots off but she was too weak and died right there and then. I do have two other chickens now that are acting weird but they don’t seem to be related. One has...
Thank you. I haven’t done permethrin yet but I think we have some hiding in the house somewhere so I will try and find it tomorrow. I’ll also give her a warm soak with some hibiclens mixed in. I also bought some more Nu Stock to apply every few days.
As for the original injury/wound, we have no...

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you think about this? I was looking over some other threads that discussed chickens with bulky scabs, and ingrown feathers and squamous cell carcinomas were suggested. However, I could not find a photo of either of these things where...
Like, I genuinely don’t understand what the hell had to happen for scabs to form like this. They almost make me worry that they’re tumors, but they appeared suddenly one day last summer, so that doesn’t make sense. However, like a tumor, they’ve definitely grown.
Yesterday I turned her over to flush out her scabs with betadine and apply the Nu Stock. Well, it turns out that there are more scabs that are a lot bigger than I initially thought. There is a third one between her legs that is the size of two lemons that somehow I didn’t originally see. It...
She does not sit on the roost in the coop, but rather in the nesting boxes at night. We make sure to keep the bedding pretty clean and dry in there. The wound is to the left of the breastbone and the biggest scab is several inches below it.
She got those scaly leg mites several years ago, and...
Around august of last year, one of our BOs who’s about 7 years old now got a big wound on her chest. We don’t know how it happened and it was already covered by a big bulky scab by the time we found it. It smelled infected and we gave her antibiotic injections for awhile, and she seemed to be...
Hi,
I’ve been treating one of my speckled sussexes for scaly leg mites for several months now but they just keep coming back, and she’s eating and perky looking but doesn’t like to move. She just stands around in the coop most of the time, and when she moves, it’s this weird run where she picks...
Yesterday my 6yo BO, who is normally very active and vibrant, was looking off. I gave her an exam today and it appears she has a teardrop-shaped scab and bloody feathers on her underside that’s about an inch or two in diameter. I don’t know what caused the puncture- it doesn’t look like it’s...
I’ve been artificially stratifying a bunch of native plant seeds in my fridge for a couple of weeks in paper towels in plastic bags. There isn’t much room in the fridge, so I stacked the bags on top of one another. I cut holes in the side of them and left the tops of the bags open, yet when I...
Today I noticed that the wattles on my 4 yo Polish hen Misty have turned blue and look really saggy. She is acting completely normal otherwise, and is eating, drinking, running around and digging with everyone else. A lot of our girls are molting right now, but Misty is not really at the...
This past weekend we got 6 pullets. 2 Wyandottes (1 silver 1 gold), 2 BOs, and two Barred Rocks. I’ve been struggling to come up with names for them. Anyone have any ideas? Photos are down below👇
I’m in central Virginia and we drive to a place called Lazy Creek Farm in Madison. They sell 50 lb bags for $15 each. The girls love it and have been laying well on it for several years now. It’s a long drive but it’s pretty and definitely worth it for the money. The bags are also reusable so...
