Here in northern Wisconsin (down to -30) I stick with the heated dog water bowl. I do have a premier1 heated nipple drinker but the nipples freeze up at a certain point even when I keep it inside the large coop. I found that the dog bowl is the most simple and easiest solution!
Would we need to get him more than one female to live with? I’m having no luck rehoming him so I’m thinking he’s just going to stay with us. I’m also having a tough time finding other ducks! One CL ad for a single pekin but I’m not sure if that’s a good option.
Thank you! That information is very helpful. We used to have geese but waterfowl aren’t my preferred farm critters. It’s snowing up in the Three Lakes area this morning.
Good afternoon! Would anyone in the Northern WI area be interested in this little guy? I believe he’s a white Muscovy. Someone found him in the road with no sign of where he came from so he ended up at our little farm. I’d love it if someone could take him in with their existing flock since we...
Hello everyone! Just wondering if anyone in the Eagle River/Rhinelander area has a couple ducklings they could part with? We were given a rescued duckling and are looking for a couple others to keep it company.
Thank you!
We were given a single rescue duckling that someone found on the road. (Currently on the hunt for duckling friends!) I’m not sure on age. Anyone have any idea what kind of duck it is? Thank you!
Also how do I tell that he’s in pain? Poultry seems to never show it. And if nothing works and he is suffering (needs to be put down), what is the best thing to do with his mate?
How would you go about applying the Terramycin? He’s not exactly a friendly sort of goose.😅 My husband can go in and grab him which is what we did to check it out but I’m not sure how actually touching the eye would go.
Waiting to hear back from the vets office but I don’t think they deal with any type of farm animal. Thank you for the advice, I will look for that soon. Any thoughts on vetrycin for this?
My gander injured his eye, I assume on a bad spot somewhere in the fence. I covered all possible sharp spots but I feel so bad for him. He is definitely partially or fully blind in that eye and it looks to be infected. What can I do to help him?? He’s only with his mate and I don’t want to loose...
I’m in the very northern part of Wisconsin so I understand struggles with snow and cold, especially this year! My flock consists of silver laced wyandottes, Buckeyes, buff Orpingtons, jersey giants, welsummers, and one welsummer rooster. Rooster has been in the garage for awhile because he got...
I have no heating in my coop except for a cozy coop panel they can hang out by during the day. I open my coop door a little later in the morning but I have it opened all day for them. I actually put their food and water outside for many reasons but it makes them get out a bit. (Lots of hay on...
Brrr! I ended up putting my pair of African geese in the garage for the foreseeable future since nighttime temps are negative teens and twenties with bad winds. Currently I have three rabbits, the geese, and my rooster in there since the hens were pecking his poor frostbitten comb bloody. I have...
I’m dreaming of a garden here in northern Wisconsin!👋 I think this year I will just start with big pots and find veggies that can be grown that away. I have a nursing baby, toddler, and preschooler so I’m finding my time very short lately. It’ll be a great year for me and my babies to get our...
