I use puppy pads for the first 1-2 weeks and then switch to sand which has worked so well. I use a reptile poop scoop to clean the droppings everyday. Fast, clean and simple.
my poor husband is so over building me coops and runs. Lol. Just finished up the seramas area and my two oldest babies spent their first night outside. its still a blank slate so I’ll be adding in the details but so glad to have it finished so my older two can enjoy it. The run has a coop at...
If you only want to do a small amount of eggs the Brinsea mini II advance is wonderful. Easy to use. I hatched 7 out of 7 Serama chicks 3 weeks ago. I did buy a hygrometer to place inside to better monitor humidity.
Thought I’d share my cute babies here. The two older chicks are almost 7 weeks old now. Named Cooper and Smidge. And my younger babies are almost 3 weeks old. I swear there are no sweeter chicks than Seramas
Thank you! It was actually twice the width of this but we split it in half and put the smaller birds on the other side. Now we are doing a third run and coop off the side for the tiny serama chickens. I always worry it’s too small because we don’t free range here but everyone seems happy with...
Oh geez. I hope not. Chick 1 and 6 scream female to me as far as personality. Chick 5 also seems female in personality and how she/he carries itself. Chick 3 crowed at two weeks so that matched my guess with him. Chick 4 is one I pretty much know is male by personality. Same with chick 7...
Serama babies are coming up on 3 weeks old. I know it’s a bit early to be certain but is anyone bored and want to take a guess? If you’d rather not guess I’ll just consider this a cute chick show off post;) Individual of each chick and a cute collage of all 7.
Chick 1
Chick 2
Chick 3...
I use a traditional heat lamp with a thermometer at floor level for a few days and then switch to this setup with a premier one brooder plate. I keep my babies inside the house. I also switch from puppy pads to sand at that point. The sand is amazing. So easy to clean with a reptile poop scoop.
One of my silkies had fallen way behind the others in growth also. He seemed very sickly for the first two weeks. He was also the only one in the group who had reoccurring pasty butt that I had to really stay on top of. Luckily he pulled through and caught up very quickly in growth. He’s now...
My big girls made it very clear the new silkie group was not a welcomed addition. I ended up doing a separate run for the silkies and a polish and two larger girls that had a very low man on the totem pole personality who were also unwelcomed to the the big girl group. Now I am also raising...
Congrats! I adore my emu. She lives with two mini horses, a pony and a quarter horse. We call her Emee. ❤️ I wish I could add a second but fear the acclimation period would be a dangerous one
I just hatched my Seramas almost 2 weeks ago. My eggs starting wiggling on day 15 as well. They pipped day 19 and most hatched day 20 with one last one early day 21. I locked down at day 17. Hope you have a successful hatch to report this weekend:). I have two more sets in my incubators.
