Mini-Update: I'm going to do a more complete update tomorrow, but I just HAD to share what I discovered while checking the feathering out progress on my Canterbury Crested chicks! One of the chicks has CLAWS ON HER WINGS!!!!!
She has an extra digit, almost like a "finger", on each wing at the...
Perhaps I'm using the terminology wrong? The F1 birds are the original 50/50 silkie X serama. What I'm referring to as F2 chicks have at least 1 F1 parent. F3 chicks have at least 1 F2 parent, ect.
I have a hen who does this, but she also crows, exhibits other rooster behaviors and grew a rooster tail! Yet we know for sure she's a hen because we locked her in a kennel by herself and she laid an egg in there! Her eggs never have yolks. Only whites. We were told she may be a gynandromorph...
UPDATE: The F3 chicks are 1 week old! Please enjoy these new pictures of our purple-skinned beauties!
Chick 1 -
Chick 2 - (I named this one Bow Tye. Bow for short.)
Chick 3 -
Chick 4 -
Chick 5 -
(These last 3 had a hard time standing still, so I couldn't get head shots of them.)...
True, but I'm not really developing them as a meat bird. I make pickled eggs and the smaller eggs work better as the larger ones can be a bit overpowering. Also, if I can get them looking how I want, they will also make gorgeous ornamental birds. Although, if someone really wanted to, they could...
UPDATE: Sorry for the long wait. I have some exciting news! We have more F2 chicks as well as our first F3s!! I ended up keeping 2 roosters and 1 hen from the last group of F2s (cause there was only 1 hen in the whole bunch...) The first rooster is a super friendly, very small white with...
Hello all! It's been a while since I last posted on here, but I wanted to share some exciting news! I am developing a new breed of chicken! I am calling them Canterbury Cresteds, after my hometown of Canterbury Connecticut! The breed will include a mix of silkie, serama, polish crested, ayam...
OMG, I hadn't even considered that there could be something wrong with the water. I've already ruled out the feed, the air quality and bedding and no one feeds the chicks anything inappropriate (I have security cameras. I would see it when I check the footage.), but we do have a well and we have...
Hello again. I'm in need of some help. I have been hatching out chicks and haven't had issues in the past, but recently I started getting into some of the more exotic breeds and the chicks keep dying on me. They start out fine - eating, drinking and running around like perfectly healthy chicks...
Hello all! I'm new to breeding silkies and I need help identifying the colors of the new chicks that just hatched. I've searched all over for some sort of silkie chick color chart, but the best I've found is a chart of adult colors, which doesn't help me with babies. Can you guys tell what...
(This is not an ad. I'm looking for advice) I have a royal palm tom who I'm thinking of selling. He looks a bit rough right now cause he's been fighting with my other boys, but he's a nice bird. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what a breeding age royal palm tom is worth, please?
Well, we lost the worst chick. She passed overnight. The others are showing improvement now that they're getting a higher dose of Corid, so I think I have my answer. Hoping to not lose anymore. Still open to suggestions if anyone has anymore tips that might up their chances.
