Molting chicken refuses to come down from roost

She still looks like she’s going through hell with the molt, but is coming down on her own each morning, eating like a horse and in good spirits. I think that her chest and belly feathers fluffing out made the difference, when they were just pin feathers, I’m sure it was uncomfortable finding...

Molting chicken refuses to come down from roost

Update: she came down on her own yesterday, but today she wouldn’t. I climbed up there and got her down for the day. Poor thing looks like a pin cushion and uncomfortable pink skin. Hoping these new feathers fluff out soon because she went right back up there tonight. 😂

Molting chicken refuses to come down from roost

Agreed that it’s inconvenient, but in the winters I think that’s where it holds heat, so they love it up there. 😕 I’m having a hard time believing that she would literally stay up there and dehydrate to death, but I can’t help but worry. I’ll climb up there if she doesn’t come down by tomorrow...

Molting chicken refuses to come down from roost

Hi all! I have a 3 yr old chicken that is going through a hard molt. Today she didn’t come down from the roost. I’m only concerned because that means she’s not eating or drinking water. Should I just leave her be and hope she comes down tomorrow? The roost is, unfortunately, 12 ft above the...

Sick Hen. No appetite, Green poop? (Pictures) start corid?

Thanks for the advice. She seems a bit more awake today, but laying around mostly. She’s drinking water (with corid) and has eaten a bit of yogurt and egg today, a few pecks of rolled oats. Her crop seemed empty this morning, but it’s feeling kinda soft and squishy this afternoon. Here is a...

    She lookin’ like a man…

He’s a good boy! I wouldn’t call him cuddly, but he likes me and eats out of my hand… well, picks food out of my hand to feed to drop on the ground for his hens. I dont know how he got so big when I feel like he only gives food away! Haha

    She lookin’ like a man…

Update picture. I’m obsessed with him and his angry eyebrows. He’s very nice to me and the hens, and the neighbors haven’t complained yet! 😍

Sick Hen. No appetite, Green poop? (Pictures) start corid?

Hi all, I hope you can help me. I have a 3 yr old hen that I adopted several months ago, because she was bullying her previous flock. She seemed perfectly normal and acting herself all day yesterday, but last night she went into the coop for the night a bit early and, uncharacteristically, slept...

    ethical hatcheries or breeders?

They located in Polk, OH. They say “every chick gets a home” and they say it’s because they take preorders so they know what quantities of eggs to set, any extras from that go into the bins in the store for $4.25 each or are sold under their “adopt me bargain” straight run or “frypan bargain” at...

    ethical hatcheries or breeders?

I actually love Meyer Hatchery. I’d consider them ethical. I. Know they don’t euthanize extra cockerels or excess chicks. I am lucky enough to only be a 45min drive from there, so I went in person to pick up my chicks. The chicks in the bin were all lively. All of mine have been healthy and...

    Is this crow normal? (Video)

My guy, Alfred Hitchcock, is a 20 week old LF Cochin cockerel. He has a deflating sound/ wheeze after his crow. Is this normal because he’s still young and new to crowing or should I be worried about a respiratory problem? Thanks!

    Partridge Penedesenca pullet or cockerel?

For the sake of posterity, here are pics at 12 weeks old. I tried taking more photos but it’s 100 degrees today and none of us want to touch each other more than we have to. 😂

Polish chickens with mixed flock questions

Hi there, I have one 11 week old Polish in a mixed flock, she doesn’t get bullied but she’s a bit of a loner, so looking to get her a friend or two. Some crested Houdans of the same age are available nearby, but wasn’t sure that would serve the same purpose. Thank you for any advice. :)

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

ISO a polish pullet near North Ridgeville, Ohio. Preferably older than 12 weeks and up to a year. I have one polish in my mixed flock, and although they all get along fine, she’s a bit of a loner and roosts on her own. Let me know if you have one available. Thanks!

Breed guess on 10 week old Meyer bin chick?

Still haven’t figured this one out. Darker red than my New Hampshire (I think) chicks. Straight comb, yellow legs, black feathers at the tail and some black markings on the wings. I thought maybe buckeye, but they have pea combs. Let me know what you think! From Meyer Hatchery 3/31 hatch, almost...
