    Oklahoma Chick!

I am a free ranger once they are big enough. I have 7 chicks right now that need to grow a bit more before they are on their own. I have 3 ducks that hang around the pond 24/7 until I come out to the barn and they run up for a bite to eat. :) Thanks for welcoming me!

    Dog to protect your flock?

Do any of you use a dog to protect your flock? I am thinking about getting another dog to train to protect the chickens and ducks overnight or while I am away. Do you think they will keep raccoons away? Interested in any ideas you all have!

keeping house chickies: yes or no?

I let my chicken (last survivor of the flock) come in on really cold nights over the winter and I would catch her looking in the windows and coming to the door when it was time for bed. lol She really loved being inside but I am super sensitive to smells and couldn't keep her in all the time. I...

Rat Snake and Raccoons in the Coop!

We witnessed a hawk swoop down and grab our golden sexlink once. The hawk tore quite a few of her feathers out but she survived and scared!

Rat Snake and Raccoons in the Coop!

My chicks aren’t laying quite yet. No eggs yet. No way a dog could have gotten in and my dog is quick to let me know if anything is in the yard or pasture. She often alarms me when there is a snake close to the house. The snake is currently in the coop and I’m about to catch him if I can get to...

Rat Snake and Raccoons in the Coop!

Thanks for the reply! :) I am just as confused as you are. I am assuming that it was the snake bc I can see light cuts on the chickens neck that to me look like fang marks. There was a large chunk of feathers from her neck on the ground in the coop. I am assuming the snake didn’t get a good bite...

Rat Snake and Raccoons in the Coop!

Yes, wounded chicken alive and doing well. I’ve cleaned her up and have been treating her with antimicrobial spray. She is eating and drinking well.

    Oklahoma Chick!

I have tons of hardware cloth but Hotwire for my chickens isn't something I have experience in. I use It for my horses but haven't found something that is affordable and easy to use for my chickens. I'm all about using what I have until I HAVE to buy something! Thank you so much for the response...

Rat Snake and Raccoons in the Coop!

I've been raising chickens since 2015 and this year has been the worst for predators! First... I had a raccoon that got into my coop after chewing off shingles and through the roof and killing two of my chicks (8 weeks old) and also got into my other coop and killed my 4 yr old hen. I trapped...
