Just had to share this picture. I put out some leftover mixed veggies. Benedict actually picked out all the corn and peas - but left the green beans and carrots! He knows what he likes!
So...you didn't have anyone to let them out in the morning and put them back in the evening? My one gander sleeps in a 12' x 12' screened space. He puts a LOT of poop in and around his little pond overnight! I can't imagine what it would look like if I left for a long weekend! How many geese do...
I have the same issue - Benedict sticks close, but moves away if I try to touch him. I tried lifting his foot so I could look at it, but he wasn't having any of THAT! I guess I'll have to wait for my husband to help - but Benedict is very nervous and cautious around him, so this might make him...
After writing that title, I feel like I’m setting up a dating service ad! Maybe in a way I am. He’s all by himself and I know he’s lonely. We rescued him but we don’t have any other poultry or animals and aren’t interested in getting another goose. Is anyone interested in giving him a loving...
This is a picture of my gander from the rear. He’s standing on his left leg with his right foot up. Is this what a goose’s foot looks like? There seems to be a bump. He isn’t limping as far as I can tell.
Thanks for the ideas! I picked up some timothy hay. I'm going to find a crate and hang it today. I know what you mean about Romaine lettuce - he absolutely LOVES it, but it's a bit pricey. I give him the trimmings from Romaine and iceberg as a treat.
Thanks - but we've pretty much decided we can't manage another one. At this point we don't have enough grass for even one, and he keeps us on our toes all the time. Thanks, though.
Hi, Mtn Margie. I have a Chinese brown gander. He's sure entertaining. Only me, my mom and my husband in his flock, and I'm sure he thinks he rules the roost!
Wow! I didn't know we had State threads! That's a great idea. How would you transport a goose, and do you think it would be terribly traumatic to take him to someone else's home?
About the only treat he likes is lettuce. I might try luring him to bed with that. He hangs out in a corner right beside the house when we're not outside - I think that's where we should have built his yard! I wish mine would run for his yard...if I call "bedtime" he takes off in the opposite...
This is a concern we're facing now. We love to travel in our RV, but not sure how to handle our "free-range" gander. Not many people around except us, so he's not really socialized. Letting him out in the morning is easy - but getting him back in his enclosure at night could be a real problem!
