    Sick hen(?)

Bumping to update on her situation: she’s dead. What she had was quick, she showed symptoms for 3 days before abruptly just passing. Didn’t seem worse this morning when I let her out, but I came home and she was dead. It’s been hours because her body is stiff and cold. Whatever it was I hope it...

    Sick hen(?)

I got SMZ from my vet which is what they had/recommended. I used it in the past to treat egg yolk peritonitis(?), and it worked very well. .5 mL a day for 7 days. I’m doing the same thing now, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. She’s still drinking, haven’t seen her eat though. I was thinking...

    Sick hen(?)

Going to bump my previous post, she’s definitely on a fast decline. She’s hardly active now and wants to sleep in a corner. Enough strength to move in and out of the coop though. I can’t get her to drink or eat often but I’ve seen her do it. I’ve gotten some SMZ into her yesterday which is a...

    Sick hen(?)

She’s probably 5-6 lbs if I had to guess. I don’t know if her eggs have been thin shelled, but I do know some eggs break often, but I’ve attributed that to the hens fighting around the nesting boxes. When I collect multiple times a day to avoid broken eggs (when I can), they’re all hard-shelled...

    Sick hen(?)

Crop was emptied, it’s not a crop issue. I put her by herself just so she can relax and eat without any competition. She slept in a nesting box last night, she never does that. Is there a general poultry antibiotic I could give her? I’m certain it’s bacterial.

    Sick hen(?)

Hey all, I have a hen who’s pretty lethargic. Noticed it yesterday. She’s sitting around a little during the day which is unlike her , comb is drooping, and she has a pasty green-yellow fecal discharge. She’s also sleeping on the coop floor tonight which is very peculiar for her. Besides that...

    Hen having trouble walking

Hello, I have a five year old Dominique hen who’s having trouble walking. She stumbles around and can’t put weight on the leg well. Her toes are also curled slightly inward. It started around yesterday when she got out of her area and with some of the roosters (I keep her physically separated...

Hen won’t come outside of coop

Hey all, I have a 5 year old Dominique hen who’s became a recluse. She almost never comes out of the coop by herself, she just sits in there all day and I don’t know what to do about it. She looks healthy, eats and drinks normally when I bring her out, and doesn’t act sick in any way. The only...

    Selling hatching eggs

Could I possibly cross a blue splash ameraucana and a blue splash maran and get blue splash olive eggers?

    Selling hatching eggs

Hey all, I want to start selling hatching eggs online (Ebay, etc..) just as a side profit to pay for my chickens. Problem is, I don’t know what would sell well. I’m looking to get around half a dozen new birds for breeding, either a hybrid or a purebred lineage. I have ideas of starting a...

    Immobile hen

I forgot to say this, but there is no possible way she was attacked or anything besides her flock mates or one of my two roosters, but she’s my biggest hen and they hardly mess with her.

    Immobile hen

Alright. I know there’s nothing I can do if it’s Mareks, and I don’t know if the previous owner had them vaccinated so it’s always a possibility. I’ll try everything listed and get back to you if her condition better or worsens.

    Immobile hen

Hey; sorry for the delayed response. Been busy with family. She isn’t pooping much (this is the only i could find). All of this happened overnight. I woke up one morning and she was laying on the coop floor and wasn’t able to get up. She can move around a little bit but she can’t pivot. I find...

    Immobile hen

I cleaned the dirty out of her nose after this photo; her nostrils aren’t clogged or runny, she’s just been falling on her face a lot.

    Immobile hen

I don’t know her breed, she’s just a large white chicken. I saved her from an overcrowding incident a year ago. I feed standard layer pellets and give them grains occasionally, and they have access to outside grass all day so I don’t know everything she eats outside but I assure you she isn’t...

    Immobile hen

Hey everyone, I’ll try to condense this with as much necessary information as possible. I have a hen who is about 9-10 lbs (rooster size, not obese) that suddenly became lame in her right leg one morning. She keeps tilting her head up slowly and jerking it back down often, and her balance also...

    Broody hen.

Hey, sorry for the late reply; She was sitting on 5 eggs, but only one was viable. I assume it died in the egg because after a couple of days it didn’t hatch and eventually started to smell awful so I threw it out. When I candled it, it seemed like it took up the entire egg, so I assume it was...

    Broody hen.

I have a broody hen sitting on a clutch of a lot eggs that I’m planning to candle tonight. She’s quite far along, I think about 2 weeks now. If I have too many viable eggs, what should to cull them? Should I get and area to separate her from the other chickens? I have 2 roosters so I don’t know...

    Identify predator

Hey all, I lost a hen yesterday morning to some unknown predator. I’ll be getting batteries for my trail cam today to see if I can identify it, but I thought I’d also post her to get some input. I have a separate coop and run from my main coop with two hens. It’s used to separate from the rest...

    Easter Egger runt?

I didn’t have any. Chicks are usually pretty tame so long as there’s not an already existing injury in which they’ll pick at. Key is adequate space and enrichment.
