I have a 3 day old chick who needed assisting with hatch as it was shrink wrapped. Its feet are also facing towards each other. Not malleable or able to orient in correct anatomical position. Toes are also hyper flexible. It can walk but.. how do I help it? I’ve got it on B12 supplements and...
Alright thanks! I don’t think it’s bowed in any way. I just feel like the structural integrity of the leg isn’t there and only just seems very unsturdy. None of the other chicks had this kind of issue. I’ll get some rooster booster. Would eggs be good as well or do I just need one or the other.
Hey all,
I have a chick who I hatched from a Cemani breeder who was born with deformed legs. This isn’t slipped tendon, it isn’t spraddled legs. The leg itself will actually position correctly and everything is anatomically correct besides the right leg and foot facing inwards but it can...
I can grab and feel the mass, and it doesn’t hurt her. It feels like how a slightly squishy impacted crop feels if you know what I mean. She’s drooping over and her vent is straining a little. Well it’s opening and closing but she’s producing waste and she’s not backed up.
This stool color is...
Thank you for your response.
I don’t know when her last egg was. Definitely not recently though. It has been at least 2 weeks but probably longer.
I got her drinking pretty well, but she’s a little picky on food. Crop is emptying and no issues there. Hens are all dewormed 6 months ago, I’ll...
I don’t know if it’s ascites because it feels like the mass is more fleshy.. like I’m just grabbing at a organs which have been pushed back but it could be a buildup of something.
Hey all,
I have an almost 4 year old hatchery production blue hybrid breed which has had a health decline in recent weeks. It has gotten worse now, I’ll go over her current state concisely.
Lethargy, loss of appetite but does drink and eat seldomly. Free ranged. Not laying currently. Drooping...
As an owner of Hollands, I must address that this breed lacks a lot of consistency amongst breeders and has been extremely bottlenecked and a lot aren't true to breed anymore. I am lucky, as my Hollands are direct descendants of Rutgers original line. However, they've suffered a serious varsity...
Welcome to BYC. Join the Buckeye Facebook group if you're looking into Buckeyes. Lots of breeders there who breed to the Standard! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61553423219700 has stock descending from Shumaker's line which won lots of awards at show. heritagemeadowsfarm.net is a...
Hey all,
I would like to know if there’s any recommended blueprints I could follow for a small-scale, economical, and straightforward housing system I could build for two hens that I would like to separate from the rest of the flock. I would like to fence off a small section around the area...
Note: I forgot to get a photo tonight, I’ll get one tomorrow morning.
Hey all, I have a hen who I assume had her eye pecked at. I noticed it last night. Her eyelid was a little bloody and swollen all around the eye. It was completely sealed shut. It was the same today, didn’t look any better as...
Will do. They don’t seem to mind him too much and they’re too busy cuddling each other and staying away from me.
So how should I go about it? How long should I leave him/her unattended? S/he has 2 other brooder mates, adequate space, heat, food, and water. I’ll try my best to incorporate them...
I do all of the chicken chores and I want the chick to like me, but be able to go without me for a couple hours at time without being frantic. It doesn’t like being beyond 2 feet away from me at all times and will just chirp loudly for hours. He doesn’t give in. As soon as I make my appearance...
Hey all,
Going to be concise. I had a bad hatch where I only got one chick. He is two days old. It has imprinted on me and screams bloody murder when it can’t see me anymore. It was fine when it wanted to sleep in the incubator all day after it had hatched but now it is restless and wants to be...
Bumping to update on her situation: she’s dead. What she had was quick, she showed symptoms for 3 days before abruptly just passing. Didn’t seem worse this morning when I let her out, but I came home and she was dead. It’s been hours because her body is stiff and cold. Whatever it was I hope it...
I got SMZ from my vet which is what they had/recommended. I used it in the past to treat egg yolk peritonitis(?), and it worked very well. .5 mL a day for 7 days. I’m doing the same thing now, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. She’s still drinking, haven’t seen her eat though. I was thinking...
Going to bump my previous post, she’s definitely on a fast decline. She’s hardly active now and wants to sleep in a corner. Enough strength to move in and out of the coop though. I can’t get her to drink or eat often but I’ve seen her do it. I’ve gotten some SMZ into her yesterday which is a...
She’s probably 5-6 lbs if I had to guess. I don’t know if her eggs have been thin shelled, but I do know some eggs break often, but I’ve attributed that to the hens fighting around the nesting boxes. When I collect multiple times a day to avoid broken eggs (when I can), they’re all hard-shelled...
