Hello,
My chickens are just about finished molting. When I looked in the coop for eggs (no luck), I noticed the poop under the roost looked like it was sprinkled with course-ground salt. See pics. They didn't move, and they weren't soft like worms. Could the chickens have picked at their...
Two electric suggestions. Get an electric fence for the chickens. I got mine from https://www.premier1supplies.com/poultry/fencing.php I didn't want to fence them at all, but in spite of the chickens being securely cooped at night, predators had taken their toll during the day. I have a dog...

My chickens congregate at my glass patio door to tell me it's snack time. Rudy Roo crows. Once I've given them their treat, they join me on the patio. Rudy, especially, chatters to me. I wonder what he's saying. I talk back, of course. Some times the hens will doze off, and it sounds like...
I collected some snails and the surrounding liquid, as well as some regular poop (separate containers) and took the samples to the vet. He had never heard of and could not find any info on the snail situation as being harmful to chickens. He did know about the fact that some snails can survive...
There is no consistency as to how often or when, except it is during the day, although it may happen in the coop at night. They do seem fine. Tonight I found a puddle on the porch where the chickens had just been that had nothing in it! I'm not going to freak out, but I am going to check with...
I haven't seen it happen. It's been going on since spring. I told myself it was some wild birds. I haven't seen any liquid seeping from their beaks. The discharge I find on the ground doesn't smell like anything.
I appreciate your thoughts. Because you mentioned the crop, I looked into how to identify problems there. I can't tell from looking at the chickens if there is anything wrong. Next time my daughter comes over, I'll ask her to hold the chicken while I feel around. But I think it's time for...
Since no one else has experienced this, I guess I'd better check with the vet. They could have an infection antibiotics could fix. Thanks for your responses. If anyone else sees this thread and knows what's going on, please let me know.
I added my location, Shippensburg PA, to my profile. It is hot and humid here. Here are photos of the snails. I didn't actually catch the chicken in the act, but none of the other birds who visit my porch are big enough to make that much of a poop.
I will when I see them again. It doesn't happen every time, and sometimes not where I can see them. I am sure they are snails, though. And they are alive. BTW, when I said above that the chickens are healthy, I mean they act healthy. I just hope they are!
