    Chickens eating eggs

Typical pullet eggs, smallish. The first layer of the two does have larger eggs than the other one. One of them has much darker eggs too.

    Chickens eating eggs

I confirmed I have an egg eater today too. Already placed marble eggs in two of the favorite nest boxes, I have 3 more so will put those out tomorrow. I just added 6 pullets to the egg laying flock, 2 Marans and 4 Delawares. The Marans are already laying and none of the Delaware pullets are yet...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, I suppose I should have filled in the profile. Yes, the age of the plant and heat affect the flavor. There are ways to mitigate it tho. Pick early in the morning putting the lettuce in a container with cool water. Once in the house clean and put in the fridge for a day or two before...

    Texas

Oh I get the point about the bands especially living in a city. Where I live if they get out the neighbors would let me know or the predators would quickly make dinner out of them. I learned that when I first started raising them, thought I could free range them out here. Went from 15 to 3 the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Not much done in the garden today other than reinforcing my new border wall, between the chicken run and garden that is. I have two fenced garden areas along side the chicken run and am now growing cucumbers up the bullwire fencing that separates them. I've had to create another barrier so they...

Howdy from the Texas hill country

Thanks for the link. It always takes me awhile to figure out how to navigate a new forum. For someone who has owned and moderated several forums I should have it down by now but being an old dude I'm forgetful. Case in point I already forgot what I was searching for when I came across this site...

    Texas

Out here in the boonies there are no such inspections. Chickens roam freely all over the little town of Bandera that I live near. Actually I've never heard of chicken regulations or inspections other than to sell eggs. Not surprising in the over regulated world we live in today.

Howdy from the Texas hill country

Those who like chickens would love the little town I live near, Bandera, Tx. Chickens roam all over town, seems like more roosters than hens. Some are quite beautiful, not sure what kind tho.

    Egg-eating? Internal Laying???

You are probably right, just stressed out new birds who have been demoted in pecking order. That and the new younger birds rearranging the nest box expelling the needed amount of hay for a soft landing spot for the eggs. The nest boxes are wood bottoms with hay for bedding. In hindsight I...

    HELP EMERGENCY ATTACK

Yup, you have to make a darn near bullet proof home for your chickens. Everything loves to eat chicken and a predator will keep coming back for more if the pickings are easy. I learned that the hard way.

    Egg-eating? Internal Laying???

I have been wondering if I had an egg eater too. I recently added 6 new pullets to a flock of 9 laying hens after the first pullet laid an egg. The 2 Marans have started laying but the 4 Delawares have not. I'm suspecting one of the Delaware chickens as the culprit but short of sitting in the...

Howdy from the Texas hill country

I've been raising chickens for 3 years now but always have more to learn so glad to find this forum. I started with 15 Barred Rock chicks 3 years ago. The flock has changed, now have 4 Barred Rocks, 4 Delawares, 3 Silver Wyandotts, 2 Easter Eggers and 2 Copper Marans. I have the chickens to...
