IMPORTANT TIME SENSITIVE QUESTION: My setting hen started sitting on the wrong eggs. Found almost hatched eggs still warmish and put them under a heat lamp. can they still survive? Any Tips??
Thank you all, and now I have some update's.
As for the frost bitten pullet hen:
We discovered that it was Frostbite. So I let climb as far up the toes as it would and clipped of the rest, so now he has one foot without toes, and another without 3 claws. Thus the name StubNub. Turns out it was...
We discovered that it was Frostbite. So I let climb as far up the toes as it would and clipped of the rest, so now he has one foot without toes, and another without 3 claws. Thus the name StubNub. Turns out it was rooster, but in my defense, he doesn't have a crested tail, spurs, or much of a...
Oookaaay. So it's escalated. The swelling has gone down, but her toes are dying.
There is no feeling on the black parts. Frost bite? I would think that the swelling might have cut off circulation and caused gangrene to set in, but why is happening on the good foot too? does frostbite take days...
Wow. I never thought of sheep getting caught in brambles, but it makes sense. Kinda a stretch to say it's carnivorous, because it's not by the definition of carnivorous plant, as it can't digest the animal. I think that's only a problem with wool sheep and a very specific age of hair sheep...
Speaking of hair sheep, one of my hens is so totally attached to one of our ewes. They sleep together, eat together, go everywhere together. I can't for the life of me get her to go with the rest of the flock! I've banished her from the sheep pasture, and she took one look at the flock, turned...
Thanks. I didn't know they liked company so much, so thanks for the tip, and the specific aspirin advice. I'll try that and play around with herbal concoctions and report back in a few weeks once she heals! Maybe I'll figure out a useful herbal remedy that others can use.
Thanks again.
DO NOT BATHE IN DAWN!!! Very bad or feathers and their paper-thin skin. Bathe them in a mild detergent and or a anti lice soap approved for chickens. As for bedding in the nesting boxes, I use straw for convenience and price and I think it's more comfortable for them. That's not the lice problem...
yeah, whatever it is, cannot retract it's claws, so you can rule out cats for the most part. Definitely look like canine prints. can't think of a canine that small tho.
Send a pick of what you catch tho, I'm sure we're all anxious to see what it is! I my also help the rest of us if we know the...
If you get goats, just know that they are horrible at getting worms. We have found it almost essential to have our own microscope and fecal exam parafrenalia. If you want the for the milk than I say, go ahead, but if you just want them for pets/ meat/ mowers, I would recommend Hair Sheep. great...
and I think She landed on it wrong from a test fly off a tree. and no I can't tell if it is broken or not. The swelling is too bad for me to tell much other than the fact that handling it causes pain.
Uh, nope for the pic. I got a very old flip phone. I can't splint it because it appears to be a sprain/strain/break of the ankle joint. The whole foot is swollen double the size of the good one and will not go down despite epsom salt and ice water soaks. Thinking about Cumfrey compress because...
I am free ranging for the most part. Usually isn't a problem, but those three didn't seem to want to integrate to the flock. Thank's for all y'all responding!
I've got a chicken with a broken foot. There anything I ought to do right off the bat? Never had this happen before. Eating just fine, but foot very swollen and painful. Just a pullet hen. Hope I can save her. Help?
Hey, I'm new and looking for some tips a a pullet's broken foot. I'm on "Blackgranite's Chicks" if you would be so kind to pop over there and say hello.
Happy very late birthday to whoever we're happy B-daying though.
However, I do have that hen with a broken foot, so any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Her foot is very swollen and causing quite a bit of pain. Still eating/drinking voraciously however. I've never dealt with a break or sprain on a chicken.
