    i use a usb tape light for tvs as a night light for my hens on 2nd lowest warm light setting. it helps them see at night and puts them at ease so they rest more. also have a wifi cam so i can keep an eye on them thru the night/day when i need to. got both at walmart.

    yes she was ruby loved being held huged..she passed in my arms and barf came out of her beak without thinking i cleaned her little beak then remembered she just passed i had a brake down at that point it still hurts 9months later

    my chicken her name was ruby when her eyes were shut i could see her eyes i saw that with ur baby ruby passed this year..spend what time u have with ur baby just in case.if the worst case happens let her know its ok too let go and ur proud of her and u love her hold her as well.

    sorry for ur loss..i held my chicken hen (Ruby) as she passed without thinking i cleaned her mouth and vent cuz i'm used to doing so then i realized she had passed she is family and is missed

    not much can be done on our part to stop it,you still might want to look for more chickens so she wont be alone just in case if she turns into a rooster she will do the same tasks a rooster will do but without the making chicks part.

    One of my fav chicken vids on youtube is called...The Private Life of Chickens...on there it says a hen can turn into rooster if her reproductive system is compromised or to much Testosterone is produced and not enough estrogen is produced hope this helps you.

    if anything else try using hard liquor in the 1800's some used it for cleaning the tools and wounds if all else fails

    Do we really understand a hens egg laying cycle?

    well scientist now saying the chicken came before the egg.which is what i have been saying since i was 5 years old "you need a mom chicken and a dad chicken of make baby chickens" my 5 year old self was ahead of the times lol.

    i have a lot of people who we tell them our hens give us eggs and they ask dont you need a male to get eggs..some times when we tell them hen do not need a rooster just to give us eggs...if we want chicks then we need a rooster..i do my best to keep my hens safe kinda like a rooster and i quicky...
