I tried this and parts of the right side (a smaller growth) flaked off. No major bleeding, but she didn't like it too much. I let the larger growth around the bottom and left side sit under the compress, but it was pretty stubborn. I stopped after that, because she seemed to being getting a...
It's firm, but gives a little and bled some when prodded. It almost flaky looking. She's been sticking to the nest box pretty much all the time. She's sitting on 6 eggs.
To the two previous posters: no bad smell. Tongue is fine. No odd colors, lesions or anything in the mouth or on the tongue.
There aren't any vets around here that do poultry. I want to keep her well, but its just going to have to be home remedies or things I can get OTC.
I just discovered that my broody hen on the nest has this growth on her face. I have researched and thought canker, but there aren't any yellow or white lesions in the mouth or throat. Suggestions and treatment ideas are welcome!
The oldest one I have is about 3 this year. She is the Barred Rock, so yes brown.
I don't recall her molting last year. She's had a rough winter. We had a dog attack in December and she was injured but survived.
I also noticed a couple weeks ago an egg with a soft shell like leathery and have...
Ok update. Tried to wash them and was being gentle, but one just cracked in my hand. Cracked the other to test shell hardness. Both had thin shells and were definitely white. All my chickens have good layer diet and free range daily. Could it be my older hen getting to the end of her egg laying?
Until recently I have been getting light blue, olive green, and varying shades of brown eggs. Then I've had two mystery white eggs show up. I was pretty sure all my hens were already laying and I don't have any white laying breeds that I'm aware of. Here a list.

That's what I get for going straight run. They didn't let me pick from the bin either... ugh. I already have one grown roo, so looks like I'll have to pick my favorite of the four Sapphire roos and rehome the rest. 😒
Welp, while I'm at it... What would you say about this one Silver Lakenvelder...
I got 6, pretty sure two are hens. These are up for your votes. Roo or hen? Got them about 3/1 and they were less then a week old, so about 4-5 weeks old maybe.
Yesterday I notice she was hanging out in the nest last night when I closed up. I noticed the mess and liquid tonight. She didn't come back in with the rest. She was hiding in a corner by our house in the leaves. I had to carry her back to the coop.
Hen is about 3 years old. Acting lethargic, hanging out in the nest all day, not laying eggs. Tonight I notice around her vent is very dirty, mouth had a clearing liquid leaking out, and she smells awful! Help! Anyone have any idea what this is and what I can do about it? We don't have a poultry...
Yes she's definitely buff orpington! She's my broody little mama every year.
Not good ones. Here are the best I could get today. They are the two in the back of the picture. Don't mind the photo-bombing orp in front 😂
No they weren't free ranging the last two days while the weather was bad. They are closed up in separate coops. Green egg was laid in one of the nests not in the EE coop.
The rooster was rescued from a local gas station last year before the first sleet storm. I have no history on him. I can post a picture tomorrow. I had the green egg appear 4 days ago and I have some EE hens but they are only 4-5 months old and in another pen. The weather has been bad, so while...
