I will be able to check on his progress. If I have any news, I will post back here. :)

    Orphaned Gosling

Well he’s at his new home! I guess this marks the end of this thread for me. Thank you so much everyone who gave me advice. I felt much more confident taking care of the little one, knowing I had people to help me. Here is his new friend, Búkolla.

I have an AMAZING update for you all! First of all, Little Baby is NOT a gosling after all, he’s an eider duckling! Second, I managed to make contact with someone who happens to be raising a disabled (one winged) eider duck right now! She has agreed to adopt him, raise him to adulthood, and...

This is just until I can get him a spill proof bowl haha. I want him to have food and water but his crate is too tiny to allow him to fling it everywhere. If we need to bath in the meantime, we can borrow a neighbors hot tub ;)

Well, I have another update for you all. My mother in law visited to see the gosling, and she recommended we call the Reykjavík Zoological Park to ask for advice. I called them today, and was told they get these kinds of calls very often. They told me that unfortunately there are no wildlife...

I did not even think of that! Thank you for the advice.

    Orphaned Gosling

I was attached pretty much as soon as I saw him run across the road. This morning he had oats, blanched spinach, chard, tomatoes, and peas. He will try to eat anything near him. He ate a piece of kitty litter off the floor... oops.

    Orphaned Gosling

Here is my update for the night. I gave the baby his final meal tonight (he is a horrifically messy eater), and I let him lay on me for a while. He is still doing very well, and he is quite strong. He flaps his wings and stands up tall a lot. Although, he still gets sleepy pretty much...

Also, I thought I would include a picture of where I think he may have come from. On either side of the road we took him from is this stuff called hraun. It’s the lava remains of a volcanic eruption several hundred years ago. It’s very sharp and dangerous to walk on. Songbirds, terns, and...

    Orphaned Gosling

Okay, I have added my location. As for the baby, my husband has gone home for his break and fed him. Apparently he ate for 20 minutes, ran and jumped around the bathroom, and then fell asleep. He also pooped since breakfast, so that is a healthy sign.

Yes, I am in Iceland. I will update my profile information. I only know of puffin or whale conservation services here. Other than feral cat shelters, I don’t know of any small animal rescues. Like I said, I will contact some vets and ask around. It could be there just aren’t any listed...

    Orphaned Gosling

Hi all, There aren’t any rehabbers that have websites at least. Since we didn’t find any upon googling. Since we are both working today we will have to call vets tomorrow to see if they know of any. Right now, most of our days are *ok*, maybe in the 40s-50s fahrenheit. Usually windy. We are...

By the way, here are some pictures from this morning. The lighting is not the best since it is in my bathroom. Still, he is healthy and happy and cute.

I will add kale to my shopping list. :) My sister in law is already going to be babysitting our cats and fish during our vacation. I don’t know if I want to burden someone else with such a delicate creature for two weeks without my help. I will talk to my husband about our options.

    Orphaned Gosling

Thank you all for the advice, the bowl is a great idea. We have driven to the place we found him twice now, with no luck finding any other geese. We may try again tonight and tomorrow, though. As for the ID, he is most likely a greylag gosling, although he is very dark and small compared to...

    Orphaned Gosling

Just thought I’d post an update before work. Little baby made it through the night just fine, and there was even poop in the cage. This morning he ate a lot, too. He devoured a medley of chopped lettuce, chard, peas, bananas, blueberries, eggshells, oats, and bloodworms (all in water). He...

    Orphaned Gosling

I wouldn’t feel right keeping him. We only live in a one bedroom apartment and we have a cat, and are actually supposed to be adopting another cat this week. On top of all that, we’re going on vacation in America in a week, so we really need to find the guy a home. Plus, he is a wild goose...
