    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Thanks everyone for your help. In the end I took her to the vet as I started to suspect it was a tumour. Without doing a biopsy, the vet agreed and advised that even if it was an enormous cyst, the hen would not likely survive the surgery. So In the end, she got put down, and she was starting to...

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

She also seems to have a lot of polyfollicles - multiple feather from one follicle. They kind of look like hairs coming from the feather follicle. I read that could be a virus or a nutritional deficiency

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Im using liquid antibiotics (we don’t have a lot of options in Australia). And I’ve just caught her to spray her hump again. Basically she has a big swollen cushion, rather than a particular lump. The yellow colour is the spray, the skin is quite white underneath

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

So Vicki’s hump has been getting worse, so I decided to try to lance it. Little prick resulted in a small amount of bleeding, but no puss. However, she had a lot of bad feathers that were soft and gooey at the skin line, and they all fell out, resulting in quite a bald spot on one part of the...

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Hi Tycine, No definitely not. She doesn’t have any bald spots now. She’s finished growing back in her feathers and her comb is reddening back up. And she is now back to her more spritely (alpha chook bullying) habits. But it’s more of a hump than a lump. And she still can’t raise her tail. I...

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Absolutely, and this Queen hates being handled. I’ll wrap her in a towel next time to have a better look at her. Until now I hadn’t heard of that gland, so hadn’t checked it (just looked it

Absolutely, and this Queen hates being handled. I’ll wrap her in a towel next time to have a better look at her. Until now I hadn’t heard of that gland, so hadn’t checked it (just looked it up on wiki). So what should I look for when I get my hands on her next time? See if I can find a...

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

It feels fairly firm, and it’s quite broad. The hen was quirming and being noisy when we were trying to look at it, not sure if she was in pain, or upset at being handled.

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Couldn’t really find exactly which feather I thought was causing the issue, and tried to get a photo of the yellow skin.

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Will try to get another photo. I thought she might have still been missing some tail feathers, hence the strange appearance, but it would appear that she can’t raise it.

    Suspected feather follicle cyst.

Hi everyone, My hen Vicki is coming out of a molting season where she stopped laying and lost her whole tail. This has happened before, so not an issue. I noticed that she has developed a lump on her back near her tail feathers. She’s eating, pooping, and generally moving ok. Doesn’t seem to be...
