    What are these bantam pullets?

Uh,oh. They better be bantams, but now I'm a little worried. Here's one of his chickens with my standard size barred rock. I don't think these pictures accurately reflect the difference in size. I can hardly pick up my BR, because she's too big for my hands to get around, but the little chicken...

    What are these bantam pullets?

My neighbor bought 8 bantam pullets, but doesn't know what breed. Do you? They are around 18 weeks, I think.

Sadness: my chickens aren't working out

At this point, screaming is a habit with this flock. Letting them "scream it out" is not possible in our neighborhood. My question was whether bantams carry on at the same decible level as standard hens.

Sadness: my chickens aren't working out

They want to get into the rest of the yard.... but this is not possible as it is not fenced in. But knowing the reason doesn't necessarily solve this problem.

Sadness: my chickens aren't working out

The coop itself is 6×6, the attached run is 6x12, the smaller chain link is 8x12, the larger chain link more than triples the total size.... sooooo approx 400 square feet.

Sadness: my chickens aren't working out

Hello friends, Last summer, we got our first chickens with high hopes.... alas, a year later, they've gotten into a stubborn habit of screaming every morning from 5am-7am. They have quite the spacious chicken compound, yet appear to be demanding to forage with these awful, incessant screams...

    Screaming chickens

HA. My SS and BO are driving me up the wall. Screaming every morning from 5am....only happy when let out to free-range. Their coop and run is well over 250 square feet for the 7 of them. They just want to be free......

    Naked Chicken Bums

Great news: my girls Eddie, Aggie, Harry and Bobby Sue all have bums full of brand new pin feathers!!! We implemented a combination of: - Setting the automatic door to open a hour earlier and close an hour later than it had. - Switched to Purina All-Flock with 20% protein - Applied BluKote...

    Naked Chicken Bums

Today, I locked the trouble makers in the chain-link portion, and the docile birds in the normal portion. That worked fairly well. Currently, they are free-ranging while I'm doing work on my computer. This will be great in the spring/summer when we have more nice weather to get me outside...

    Naked Chicken Bums

You're the best..... and yes, my SS makes me smile every day. The structure is a fancy tunnel linking the two cages, with sliding doors on either side. We have future plans to make the top into a cabinet.... someday. The tunnel is open most of the time. Using it as a chicken jail sounds...

    Naked Chicken Bums

No lice, no mites. Just three naked chicken bums, and a few others beginning to look bedraggled. I'll put on some "Peck-No-More", and then bring the two chief culprits inside.

    Naked Chicken Bums

We watched some videos, then put the pinless peepers on Agatha. Unfortunately, she clawed them off immediately and tore her nostril open. We can't do that again.... Agatha, SS, and Lizzie, BO are the primary feather eaters, but others have picked it up a bit as well. We put out the higher...

    Our eggs taste.... normal.

Update: we've begun switching to Purina Organic layer with Omega-3. Already, the eggs taste better! Unfortunately, the protein percentage is lower, so we've had a significant increase in naked chicken bums/ feather eating. Now we're going to try Purina All Flock.

    Naked Chicken Bums

Those are spots that had been dirty when we sprayed the BluKote, and when the dirt fell off, left clean skin behind.

    Naked Chicken Bums

They have 4 nest boxes, each big enough for at least two chickens. And there are curtains on each next box.

    Naked Chicken Bums

Bobby Sue wasn't terribly interested in posing, but this is what I got. There are currently no open wounds, and she's as spry/ hungry as can be as soon as she's inside. Is not eating or drinking at all outside.... and nobody is chasing her away from the feeder. Grr. I suppose I could set up a...

    Naked Chicken Bums

Fantastic! We will try the Purina All Flock, 20% first to see what that does.... then consider coop size if the issue persists as that is a more complex solve.
