Well, my attempt to combine business with hobby was successful. I just finished my business trip to the Netherlands. While in the NL I bought hatching eggs from Brabanter breed. @BDutch THANK YOU for connecting me with the seller!! I will definitely recommend him! I put all the eggs, each...
Same in Bulgaria. Only hatcheries use vaccines. I think Marek is everywhere and over the years my flock has been affected. I never gave vaccines. What I am seeing now is the following: My core flock, from my own eggs are Marek resistant. When I buy eggs from elsewhere and I hatch them (on a...
@PouleChick I was in South France (Marseille area) in October last year. Looked for eggs, couldn't find and ended up buying Poux Protect, Anti Poux and Oxi Poule. Any opinion on these? I haven't used them yet. I have been looking for a bio de-warming agent to put in the water. In Bulgaria we...
Uh, need to catch up on messages... @BDutch, I will be going to the Netherlands May 22nd to May 25th. Still don't l know where. Don't have a ticket yet... If I have time I will be hunting for eggs: https://cs-tf.com/brabanters-chickens/
Hello everyone! I am still alive, my flock keeps increasing... so I have stopped incubating several years ago and as of last summer I only put 2 eggs on the broodies.
I have been experimenting with human sleeping pills and then cull. Most contain melatonin which is harmless to human, but they don't work at all with chicken.. So I am experimenting with others now....
YES! Will definitely meet :) As for Dimitrovgrad market - the last time when I was there was poultry poor. Mainly pigeons, bantams and Indian peacocks. Even they were not many. I am keeping an eye on some Bulgarian Facebook groups and I'll let you know if we have some shows/exhibitions.
The Dimitrovgrad market is mainly on Sunday. I have been there. Need the whole day to walk through... Have you been there or want to go?
The green shelled CZ dominant - I have these and they are laying ok. I bought eggs from the exclusive importer in Bulgaria and hatched them on a broody. I...
Hi.. I just posted a comment in the other thread. I shop from aliexpress and there are different heaters there. Buy a 12v heater, no need for inverter. I have clocks on my heaters, and they only heat the waterers and the feeders during the day when chicken are awake. So I don't need a battery...
I haven't read all the responses but why don't you buy a 12V heater for the waterers and feeders? This will eliminate the need for inverter. Depending on where you live you may not need a battery too. I have a clock for my heaters and they only heat the water and food during the day - my chicken...
Just to let you know - we have 50cm of snow where I live. My chicken coop is not heated, BUT I have heaters under the feeders and waterers, so they are eating and drinking warm. I feed them soaked wheat, and cabbage, for dinner - corn. They are laying eggs like in the summer, I.e. they haven't...
So what are you doing with all your animals if you don't cull?
Ducks - I tried another method and it seemed it worked as it was super-easy to clean it. I was surprised... Put it in a bucket with hot water which is almost boiling water (as opposed to chicken where I use water 60-70C) and add...
Hi guys...Looks like you are all happy and flocks are good!!! I am good too. I have over 100 chicken now, who are really faithfully laying eggs and making money for their own food. Grain/wheat has gone up twice in the past 4 months here, but the chicken know they need to lay more :) and they do...
