    What gender is this chicken?

Sometimes hens will crow to mimick a rooster or other things. Maybe she just likes it!

    What gender is this chicken?

My bad! Yeah its hard for me to tell too, I just went with the one closest to the camera.

    What gender is this chicken?

If im looking at the right bird, that looks like a rooster. The tail feathers are a give away. They aren't shaped upwards like an ice cream cone like hens normally have, but are hanging downwards like saddle feathers (i believe that's what they're called).

    Turken acting strange

An update for anyone curious: her sickness was related to cold weather. Only started when it was cold out, and when it warmed up she was just fine. We ended up having a cold burst one day and she passed away in her sleeping spot. I have a feeling she died peacefully. I dont know exactly what it...

I put down one of my chickens (non emergency)

One of my older birds (if not the oldest) was sick, or at least that's what my mom had told me. Looked outside and she was laying down. I thought she had already passed so I went out and looked, but she was still alive, labored breathing. I pet her head and she closed her eyes. At the moment I...

    Wyandotte chick with snapped wing

I haven't done an amputation myself but one of my chicks had her wing eaten off by a dog. It was terrible to go through but she made it and is living her life to the fullest now! I hope everything goes well

    Turken acting strange

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I've been here. Anyways, so one of my Turkens has been acting super strange for awhile now. Super sickly looking (pale comb and neck), just stands there all puffed out and seems to really lack awareness. The way she walks is really strange, too. I can't...

Raising a chicken to live indoors?

I have a lot of mental health issues but I love chickens a lot. My mental health issues make it hard for me to go outside and interact with animals that have been living outside (although I still do, it's just challenging). Chickens are my favorite animals, my family has about 20 right now (+ a...

    Eggbound Turkin (Please help fast)

Actually now that you mention that I'm not sure. We instantly assumed she was eggbound because she's having trouble passing poop (a lot of it comes out clear and gloopy, or diarrhea) and had swelled up, kind of bo-legged when she walked, too. None of our other chickens have had symptoms like...

Baby Turkey won't stop chirping! Please help it's 12:14 AM!

I wanted to update you all and let you know that she has stopped peeping at night! However, she peeps whenever I am out of my room (if someone else is in my room she doesn't peep). I've learned she doesn't like being alone and doesn't like it when she can't see my face. When I'm sleeping, she...

    Eggbound Turkin (Please help fast)

I have an eggbound Turkin who's in really bad shape. She's huge and her skin is all super red. She's super stiff and walks really weird. Earlier she soaked in a warm/hot bath and was able to pass some poop, and then we put her in a cage for a bit. We fed her some egg (she was eager to eat). We...

Baby Turkey won't stop chirping! Please help it's 12:14 AM!

She's got some buddies with her, so I don't think she's lonely. I did turn off the lamp last night and they all quieted down, but I have a bantam and a turken in there with her and I'm afraid they may get cold...? Do you think they'd get cold? My room is much warmer than the average room and...

Baby Turkey won't stop chirping! Please help it's 12:14 AM!

It's around 90-96 degrees directly under the heat lamp. In other areas of the cage it's a bit cooler. I was thinking maybe she was getting too cold? But when I wrap her up in a towel and set her on my desk (like she wants me to do lol) it's much cooler inside of a towel but she really enjoys it...

Baby Turkey won't stop chirping! Please help it's 12:14 AM!

I got this baby Turkey earlier today and I was really excited as it's the first Turkey we've ever had! But tonight we're having difficulties. The chick will not stop chirping UNLESS I'm in front of it. The chick is not cold, it's not lonely (it has two chick friends with it), it's just clingy...

Is it ok/safe to incubate chicken eggs with call duck eggs?

I'm putting 4 call duck eggs in my incubator and I wanted to hatch two chicken eggs with them, because this is the first time I've known, for sure, that I have specifically one of my chicken's eggs that I want to hatch. This is my first time ever incubating call duck eggs, so I'm still...

    Acv and garlic water?

Not sure about ACV, but for garlic water I'm a bit more acquainted with. So put about one clove of garlic in each water container. Of course, after first peeling it. This seems to help build their immune systems. There's more information about this in the links below...

    EGG IS NOT HATCHING!!!!

How long has it been since you've noticed the egg moving, yet no pipping, etc? Do you hear absolutely no noise from the egg? I read that hearing another chick(en) peeping can encourage the unhatched chicks to peck their way out. Do you have any other chicks or chickens who you could bring in...

    Found baby wood duckling.

I'm not entirely sure. However, you could try getting some anti-biotics, vitamins, etc. for your chicks and putting it in their water to try to strengthen their immune system to be sure. I'm not personally well acquainted with diseases in chickens. But be checking up on them often and give them...

    Swedish Flower

Are there only two of them? I'm going to assume there are two, lol. So, the light-colored one looks like a hen to me. Looks similar to one of the chicks that I have who is a hen. Though they're probably different breeds, so their stature, wing shape, and tail may be different and mean...

Golden Sebright roo + sicilian buttercup hen

I'm not an expert! I'm only commenting on my own experience! Cheek fluff, feathered feet, comb shape, color pattern, and stature can all be inherited from the rooster. One of my roosters is a Seabright mixed with an Americana and, yes, he's smaller, but the small gene passed on to his...
