hi. I have a hen who is walking a little wobbly. After picking her up, we realized she had quite a swollen underside. I wanted to know what symptom differences there were between water belly and an egg bound hen in order to treat her correctly. Her underside feels kind of like a Water balloon...
Thank you. I wish we could have done more for her. I believe we caught it too late and it did in fact spread inside her body. Although, her foot never had any sores or infection in the bottom.. could it still be possible the infection was bumblefoot even though there was no clear infection site...
I have a hen who has been having leg issues for some time now. She is an about a year and a half old light brahma. We noticed her limping about a week ago, her foot is very swollen and red. We have soaked her foot in epsom salt multiple times with not much improvement.. given her baby aspirin...
Thanks. I was thinking about doing that, I will try. If you can see the photos on the previous replies, there are a few red areas on the side of her foot. No oozing though and it’s hard to pin point exactly what is causing the swelling. We treat the coop for lice and mites monthly and we de-worm...
I took this picture about an hour ago. It looks like maybe a cyst? Or does that look like the beginning of bumblefoot? I think whatever that is, is what’s causing the swelling.
We’ve dealt with worms, mites which has been long resolved, I believe our rooster had a respiratory infection last year. These issues have since been resolved and we actually have a brand new flock now. When they were chicks, one of them had a leg Injury to where her leg was swollen and purple...
I will have to check her again and see what I can do after work. She’s limping pretty bad today. Thanks for all of your helpful info, very much appreciated. We’ve dealt with multiple sicknesses with our chickens, but I’ve never seen anything like this on one chicken before. I will probably be...
I don’t see bumblefoot either. I see no cuts or anything either. I’m worried my Tom tried mounting her and sprained her leg, but that’s the only explanation I can think of. I’ve seen them squat when he walks near them. I don’t have an avian vet near me and my vet does not see chickens. I’ve seen...
Our brahmas are a year old as of this spring. I just picked her up and her foot is super swollen. No mites or lice, but I am assuming she’s losing feathers from the stress of the injury. I have no idea what she coukd have hurt her leg on.. does this look like a break.. infection? I notice she is...
We have a light Brahma hen who we thought has been molting for the last couple of weeks. You can tell from the picture that she has lost feathers and is much smaller than our other light brahmas. I noticed that she has been laying down pretty often and I will catch her lying while eating or...
We noticed today that one of our olive eggers, which we thought was a hen, has Spurs. Is this commin for this breed or have we had a roo without knowing? She doesn’t crow and does not show any signs of being a rooster
Our roosters comb has been pale and he has been lethargic. Most days he separates himself from everybody else. We checked him and he definitely has mites. We put Vaseline on his legs and spread DE in between his feathers. What else can we do to get rid of the lice/mites that he has?
There really isn’t a way to seperate them. I have 30 birds and they free range during the day as well.. I got the rooster and that hen (along with a buff) from the same place last year. The three of them are always next to eachother but I did notice when we first got them they had super scaly...
I noticed recently my roosters comb has been pretty pale. It seems like it’s only his that looks different. I couldn’t find anything with a solid answer as to why it’s so pale. I also have a hen who I noticed sneezing (see link to video). She was only sneezing for about 5 minutes, and nobody...
