We have somehow ended up with 11 chicks at 6 week old and 2 sneaky broodies just hatched 5 more and now we have another broody 🙈. Anyway here is some pics of some of the 6 wk olds...I know one is a female cream legbar. The others are likely cream legbar mixes (2 x legbar roosters) or potentially...
Thanks! This is what we thought. But thought I would ask. We also have 2 more broodies and 12 grown hens - so currently have them all over the place - was hoping to amalgamate! 😬🤪
Thanks. Currently she is in a large crate but I dont think thats big enough then. She will just have to get moved out to our little coop and the chicks put in the crate. Running outta space!
We have 7 4wk old chicks which were incubator hatched and then a mumma hen who hatched 4 herself at the same time. Can the bator chicks be put in with the mumma and her 4 or would she attack them?
hi all
This chick was the last to hatch and about a day late, is a cream legbar and a lot bigger than the others we hatched.
She had splayed legs so we splinted and they have come in really well from about 180° to almost normal.
But we think one of her hips looks wrong and she isnt really trying...
hi there
We had 5 chicks hatch yesterday -the last one of which was struggling so we upped the humidity.
Today we have 2 more chicks but they look like they are struggling to dry - one hatched 4 hrs ago and is still quite wet - should we lift them out and put them under the brooder with the...
I put about 150ml of water in - via a bendy straw and a syringe - one of the outer bigger rings is filled. I can try and fill one of the inner rings but is going to be tricky as the vent holes are at the outside edge...
I dont - this is the second time hatching, but everything I read says UK and still air bator means the humidity will be fine is this not true! 😕 we have 2 chicks hatched and 2 more about to come just this one struggling.
Thank you. We are in the UK and using a still air incubator so havent been too worried about humidity as all the resources I can fine say the ambient humidity is about right. We do have one of the rings filled with water. I will but a humidity measure the next time we hatch though!
On day 22 of a hatch in a still air brinsea incubator. 2 eggs have hatched but the one that looked to pip first isn't progressing - a small strip of the membrane looks dry but the rest looks fine - does this chick need help? Hard to see as viewing window is not v clear.
So as chicks should I be seeing a difference - i have 5 black chicks some with yellow splash on head some with yello on tips of wings. Also have 2 dark grey which im figuring is probably from the bluebelle...
Thanks for all the info!!
Hi I just reread your reply - its actually cuckoo marans we have - so not sure what that means - came across something which said these chicks would have male/female characteristics but Im not sure!
Just came across this thread - I have just hatched some chicks from cuckoo maran hen and cream legbar roo - will these be different colours for male/female chicks?
I hadnt realised the cuckoo maran has this trait.
Thanks in advance!!
Thank you so much! We have some cream legbar eggs hatching now - hopefully!! They seem slow so a little concerned.
Most of the chick are black or a very dark grey some have yellow on tips of their wings will be interesting to see what they grow into.
A Bluebelle is a hybrid yes and I think...
