1 week after antibiotiscs, noticed a great improvement. Antibiotics course was 1 week so stopped and it has been a further week since. The bird in question seems to have recovered. I will now try and gradually reintroduce him to the main flock.
Is it possible for young birds to recover from mareks ? Any ideas or recommendations on rehabilitation ? I understand sometimes birds can recover fully ?
Also are there some breeds that are more susceptible to mareks ? Can stress be a trigger for the disease to manifest itself ? I have had 2 ko...
No improvements so far. I am giving vitamins and also started a broad spectrum antibiotic just in case.
I have a feeling it may be mareks as he is otherwise active but keeps his feet curled and prefers to stay sitting. Could stress have been a trigger for the mareks virus to activate ?
A few days ago one of my young males (8 weeks old) escaped from the chick coop and found himself in a main flock of grown chickens. At the end of the day when i found him he was severly beaten and bloody on his back near the tail and also both wings.
I cleaned him up and found no skin...
They have not been wormed, no new birds or mucus in nose that i can tell. Do you think they have worms at such a young age ? They only eat chick crumb and are on wood shavings mostly. Dont free range.
So i have a flock of ko shamos that seem to be getting unwell. I have lost one chick at the 7 week mark and second chick now seems to be struggling.
In total i have 4 chicks, 2 male, 2 female.
Initially few days back i noticed one female had a few peck marks at the back of her head. I also...
My flock has been wiped out by a recent break in where the thieves broke into my garage and left the door open.
The fox then decided to pay a visit and finished off the job. Out of approximately 20 birds of various breeds only 2 remain.
I have lost silkies, ko shamos, old english game and...
So i know the hens age is important when it comes to hatching eggs. As per my research and experience one should not start to incubate eggs as soon as the hen starts laying but should wait a few months as initial eggs may be double yolkers and also may be smaller than usual. This results in...
Update. Batch 1 chicks are now at 10 weeks old. Looks like all 3 are roosters so i will only be proceeding with one at this stage (bared/cuckoo Black & White rooster)
I also have a second batch that has hatched, now 6 weeks old. Unfortunately it looks like 3 roosters again so may not keep any...
Thanks. Not near farmers, although i did move the chicks in a larger enclosed shed with a few other full size birds so there was a change in environment. They are still caged separately though.
One thing i dont get is why only the silkie chicks were affected and not the gamefowl ? I assume...
So i have a young grey silkie chick which is around 9 weeks old now. For the last 10 days or so she has been sneezing regularly with bubbles in the eye area (significantly reduced now).
10 days ago as soon as i noticed its behaivour i immediately isolated it from the rest of the flock and...

How do people gauge intelligence ? Can Asils be trained for any tricks ? I do know breeders train them that when they click their fingers, the roosters do the wing dance
