She wasn't very truthful we found out or she was very new to chickens even though she had about 40 :/ But! She said they were spring chicks and should be laying soon.
She tried to give us 6 obvious roosters at first and said they were hens. So I'm not sure if she really didn't know they were...
I have 3 silkies we got off of someone 4 hours away. We were hoping they would be hens because that's what we were told but now I'm not so sure. This isn't the first time we ended up with roosters after being promised hens so I'm pretty upset wondering and wondering if they are male or female...
Hello! My new "pullets" I've been sold are doing this as well! I haven't put them in with my other hens and roosters yet because they are still quite small.
Did you ever figure out why they did this? I'm afraid I've been sold cockerels AGAIN. They are silkies so they are incredibly hard to sex.
Hello! I was wondering if anyone wanted to help me determine the sex of our 6-7 week old silkie chicks! The black on is definitely a boy. I've see him crowing already :) thank you!!
We have a 5 week old one crowing. I have a suspected cockerel that hasn't started yet at age 7 weeks though that may be due to "him" actually being a "her"
I figured usually when a cockerel hears another crow it would try to join in.
Awh! Thank you so much! That's our chicken "Hedwig" She's gorgeous but has a "pecking me" problem I'm sure your girls will lay the prettiest eggs! I kept telling my husband over and over I KNEW we probably would get white eggs with a hint of green but they presently surprised us
My girl doing it is full grown too! Before we got chickens I told my husband I was terrified of them (bad rooster childhood experiences lol!) so it really freaks me out when she puts her face in mine because I'm nervous she'll peck my eyes or something :barnie
My Easter Egger roo treats the ladies like gold! He gives them all his snacks and gives them space when the hens aren't interested in him at the moment. He treats my silkie roo with allot of respect as well :)
As for my silkie rooster, he's a few weeks younger and is still treating the girls...
This just happened to our girls! They all started out laying so tiny! I really thought they couldn't get much bigger but 3 weeks later we are finally getting normal sized eggs :) I've always been told "it's their bodies learning how this works" lol!
I attached a photo of our very first egg ever...
