I refrigerate, had a bad experience years back when the dogs stole them off the bench and ate them on my bed.
I don't wash until I am about to use, unless they are really grubby. The bloom (protective coating) is there to protect the eggs/possible baby chicks.

My girl pulled through fine. I have been checking their heads and necks every day. I assume that would be the most difficult areas to reach themselves and I don't think I will be able to find a tick under all those down feathers.
Just pulled a paralysis tick off one of my girls (ducks) it was just under her eye. She isn't showing any symptoms.
I called the vet and asked about a deterrent. I was recommended Avitrol Bird mite and lice spray. They said I need to apply every three days.
