We only give them as a treat, they mainly free range and eat their crumble along with scratch. I just needed to make sure I wasn’t giving something to my animals that was harming them!
That’s a great idea for hot days! We were out with them yesterday and they were all panting and had their...
Yes. Probably. This is what came up on google so me being the paranoid and worrisome person I am, I needed to be told by someone that the peas I am feeding them are safe!
Alright, I’m confused. I’ve been feeding my flocks frozen sweet peas since they were old enough to snack on them. My husband and I got fresh sweet peas at a farmers market and they were going bad so I googled if the flock could have them and all this stuff came up about sweet peas being TOXIC...
We’ve come along way since last July when we brought our first 3 ducklings home. We now have two duck coops and a chicken coop inside a very large enclosure because we have issues with hawks.
My husband built our coops, there are some pretty easy designs out there, I would recommend googling it or go on Pinterest. Or you could check online like Facebook marketplace or craigslist, we did buy our chicken coop for $60 from someone on marketplace.
This is beautiful! Thank you so sharing. Our space isn’t quite as large as yours and all the grass is long gone in the enclosure. But I’m definitely going to show my husband and see if he can build something similar!
Here’s a picture of the “muck pit” as we call it when the pools not in it. This is an older picture. It’s now always full of water and the water will not drain and it’s stinky!
Helllo,
Was looking for ideas & advice for our baby pool in our enclosure. We have it at ground level, in a large hole dug up. But recently the ground has stopped draining and the dirty water (poopy water) isn’t going anywhere. It’s also a hassle to fill the pool up but that may just be part...
For now he’s going to hang out alone, but maybe they will end up wanting to be together. Khaleesi did sleep inside the coop next to him in drake jail for most of today, but I think she liked that they just slept and he couldn’t get to her but he was still near by. One of my other girls...
Welcome to drake jail Arthas! I’m glad it wasn’t too difficult to section this part off, and now I plan to use this if anyone ever has an injury and needs to recuperate without their friends around! Although the chickens are helping themselves in and out of drake jail! Hahah!
I don’t think we’re going to put a female in with him, he would over mate her for sure. I’m going to give it a week or two and let the girls heal and then we’ll reevaluate! I think that’s what we’ll have to do for free range time! We may let everyone out to free range, and then let him out into...
I will keep that in mind, none of the girls seem to mind him being locked up. I honestly think they enjoy the break. His main girl Khaleesi, who he was raised with from a duckling would be the girl to go in with him, BUT it wasn’t too long ago before we purchased two more muscovies that he was...
So we’ve decided to put our drake in “drake jail”....we feel bad but our girls are all missing hair on their neck/back of their head and one of them it’s down to the skin and she was raw and bloodly. Poor girl. That was our deciding factor. Our drake isn’t like crazy with the mating, but he is...
I thought it looked healed as well, when my husband and I were looking at it I was arguing with him saying if it had just happened and was bleeding earlier there would have been some type of cut or scab or something.
We have a creek. We’ve seen a few turtles over the years, maybe one snapping turtle. But not recently. But we did get her a few months ago, her and her sister are recently added to our flock and they had a big pond on the farm they were on so maybe it happened before we got her and we just never...
I posted this in the emergency/injury thread but no one ever answers me on that one!
I noticed blood on my Muscovy hens foot earlier this afternoon, we got a look at it later this evening when we were able to catch her. All the blood is gone, and it’s not bleeding anymore but it appears one of...
