Yes, there are aprons.
There is afternoon shade on the coop. I will closely monitor the temps over the summer, we are prepared to add shade cloth or something else if needed over the summer. As I said before we also plan to install some small fans over the summer to keep the air moving.
There's one vent (hole cut in the siding covered in hardware cloth) inside the run above the nesting boxes. We will add more but since it won't even get into the low 60s for two more months here we figured that would be enough to vent fumes/ammonia. We built the whole structure in two days...
Just finished our urban coop for our 8 hens. Designed by my husband. Includes padlocks on the run door, nesting boxes and large door on the coop (for cleaning it out). There are 2 exterior nesting boxes. The smaller door for the hens to enter and exit their coop remains open for now - we buried...
I do wish I had Wyandotte hens BUT both roos were so sweet actually. The one we gave away is with a new flock where they wanted to hatch chicks and we kept the beta and may also get chicks
Just a little update!
Both boys have been overall very docile and sweet, but they did start to compete over the girls. We ended up rehoming this gentleman to a flock where they want to hatch out babies.
We kept the Beta and he's sweet as can be and barely crows. Hoping it will continue that...

thanks!

I'm guessing it's related to either that my pullets have just begun laying or that my surprise cockerel has started trying to make babies. The whole flock is vaccinated...
I doubt it. They came from a reputable hatchery along with 14 other chick . Im just surprised that the sneaky males ended up being my only two Wyandottes.
I'm 99% sure these two are cockerels, but we ordered sexed chicks so just to be sure...
Gold Laced Wyandottes, just shy of 4 months old. The two in the front of this photo with greenish tails. No crowing yet. Generally very nice dispositions. They always defer to the older hens (we have a mixed...
My chicks are now 9 weeks old and one of the Easter Eggers I got is bigger than the rest and seems to have more curved and pointed tail/saddle feathers. This chick also seems to behave more protectively toward the other chicks. There is another pullet that has clearly established herself at the...
