Who has experience with this? My drake is smaller than the hens, and I'm not sure he'd even be able to successfully mate. But then I read another thread on here about it being hard for them to hatch on their own, and assisting with the "safety break" and "air cell". What is all that?
I have three call ducks, 1 drake and 2 hens. He is smaller than the hens, would he still be able to successfully breed and provide fertilized eggs? Also, I've thought about incubating and seeing what happens, after reading this, I'm not sure I want to.
What is the "safety hole" and "air cell"...
Morning Folks!! I am fairly new to the chicken world, and my hens are at the age of egg laying now. I have a RIR that keeps laying her eggs in the duck coop. Well last night, my daughter went to put all the birds up, and she was in the duck coop on her egg. She just assumed the hen got in there...
I have two ducks that are about 10 weeks old. I know one is definitely a female, and I'm about 95% sure the other is a male. They live with my 3 call ducks (1 male two female). I don't want to separate the pair, but I'm thinking 3 girls and 2 boys will be bad next year, especially since my young...
My nest boxes are in the coop that they sleep in at night, on the opposite side of the roosting bar. She made a nest under the roosting bar, completely ignoring the boxes. So in the morning, when all are out, she goes back in there and lays.

Ok!! So I messed up big time!!
My hen Flossy was laying in our small rabbit hutch, and it was super convenient. We got a new hen, and put her in the little chicks coop to get the others acclimated. When I did that, I had to put the babies in the small rabbit hutch, taking Flossy’s “nesting box”...
I'm glad I found this thread!! I'm in a similar situation. I have one Roo, and he rules the roost. My baby Turken literally flew the coop yesterday, and the Roo went after him/her!! Scared me to death!! I clipped the Turken's wings and the Cochin's so they can't fly out of it. I know he's...
We have several dogs and chickens, so we have had to fix several wounds. The best thing that I have found, that is a miracle worker, is vinegar and water!! You mix 1 tsp of vinegar to 1 quart of warm water. I put it in a spray bottle and spray it directly to the wound, 2-3 times a day, and...
I bought a hen from a guy because she was his roosters favorite, and he thought it was funny. Half the feathers on her back were gone, and she was covered in scabs!! I never thought those feathers would grow back, and it took about two months, but now she has all of her feathers!!
I think I'm over re-acting, LOL!! The pool was clean yesterday morning, and when I got home last night, it was filthy. I imagine they are swimming when I'm not around.
My girls were said to be between 8-10 months, and my dude I'm not sure. He can be any where between 6 months to a year (he's much smaller than them).
Before I got the girls, I could put him in the pond and he would swim for the longest. Now that they are here, he won't get it...he follows them...
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the duck world and have three call ducks (2 females, 1 male). I've heard that call ducks LOVE water. Yet, mine will not go into their pool at all!! I added steps in and out, I added a ramp...but they sit at their water bowl dipping their face in. I had to add another...
No...they all share the same coop. My older hen (the only one laying) had her own, but she then started sleeping with my younger hens and roo, and lays in her original coop.
