I withdrew eggs for two weeks and I fasted them overnight. I took the food away at about 5:30 pm the night before. I went out to give them meds at about 8-9 am the next day. Then I waited about an hour after that to give them the food back. That way the meds would be the only thing in their...
UPDATE: It’s been 3 weeks since their first dose of Equimax. They had their second dose after 10 days. Not ONE live tapeworm has been seen since the first dose. Hopefully it stays that way! Thank y’all for your help!
All of these eggs have to be tossed. Or do they? If we are in the withdrawal period for equimax, can the shells be used in the veggie garden? Anyone know if the meds make their way into the shells? Wouldn’t want to use them and have the meds seep into the soil, thus making their way into the...
I accidentally posted that before I was done. Whoops. ANYWAYS... I haven’t seen any creepy crawlies in their poop since I gave them equimax. But I keep seeing this. Are these dried up tapeworm pieces or feather shafts? I can’t tell. I know someone said if the tapeworm dies, I’ll see larger...
UPDATE: I gave the chickens Equimax Sunday. It was actually fairly easy. They cant spit it out like they do with Valbazen, because this stuff is a paste.
Ok thank you. And fasting them for 24 hrs before doing this is required? I don’t even know how I’m gonna do that. I mean I can take away their food. But they spill it so they’ll eat that. Then I can’t keep them from foraging for bugs.
So I was able to release my chickens back into their coop today. Thank God for pine pellets! Best invention EVER! Anyways...the Equimax just arrived and I’m so confused. It’s in a syringe marked with lbs. How do I give them .03 mL? If it’s an obvious answer I’m gonna feel really dumb.
Here’s some flood pics.
Those are my very sad, wet bantams. Before I put them in the dry pen. So pitiful.
Then my back yard while it was still going this morning.
Then where the water hits a couple feet outside my coop.
Funny thing is, they’ve been laying like champs in this rain. I haven’t gotten more than 1 egg a day in months. If that. The past two days I’ve gotten 3 each day. Imagine that.
We are in one of the hardest hit parts but we were hit hard early today. Right now the worst is more southeast of us. So now it’s just trying to fix what I can til the water drains.
No. Definitely not dry. We are soaked. I’ve spent hours in the rain and flood water today just trying to accommodate the animals. It’s a mess out here.
So based on everything I’ve gathered from y’all’s advice...
1) I maybe should have done 3 days in a row of valbazen instead of 5 days apart? I don’t know how I got that SO wrong from so many different sources. But it explains why it didnt work. And I suppose it’s too late to do it differently...
I’m definitely going with the equimax. And these ants...sweet Jesus are they a pain. I’ve never had so much trouble getting rid of ants.
And about the whole tape worm detaching thing...that’s not what it was when I saw like 20 tape segments on top and inside one of the poops is it?
