Flock won't allow hen to eat

With a few minor adjustments they will be able to see her and be only about 5 feet from her run. I had originally blocked the view between the large run and her smaller run with a few boards because she was upset being able go see them and not get to them, and was frantically trying to bust...

Flock won't allow hen to eat

They are layers (and beloved pets). We don't feed directly off the ground because I've been warned that it increases the chance of them contracting parasites and such. But unfortunately now they are just attacking her no matter what she does. It had been only when she ate, but now it seems that...

Flock won't allow hen to eat

I tried putting her in with them after she ate this morning, but they all went for her immediately. I watched them for about 15 minutes to see if they would settle down, but they were all going for her even when she wasn't near food so I had to take her out. She is eating well and acting normal...

Flock won't allow hen to eat

I do not mix oyster shell with feed for the flock, however I have a specific layer with thin eggshells that does not want to eat oyster shell, so twice a week a mix in a little into her breakfast, and that has fixed her eggshell issues. We have one with thin shells as well, and she also...

Flock won't allow hen to eat

Yes we do. Our run is separate from our coop, and the coop is raised with a small run area underneath, which is where she has been during the day. I like your idea and will try it tomorrow. I think if I let her eat for 30 minutes or so morning and afternoon she will be fine. They don't bother...

Flock won't allow hen to eat

They have a pretty large run. There are only 7 hens and the run is 16' X 8'. That's over 18 square feet per hen, so not too small at all. They used to free range but the foxes have been BAD this year. We lost too many so we built the run for their safety. Haven't lost one since.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

The weird thing is that they do not bother her at all unless she tries to eat. She is in the coop with them all night and is fine. No signs of injury or pecking at all, and during the day if she is just scratching around, dust bathing, etc they pay her no mind.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

So basically show them that she is #1? I'll try anything at this point.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

I do chase the other hens off when I see them do it to her, but they don't seem to be taking the hint. Wish I could just sit out there and defend her all day but that's not possible so I've separated her to make sure she can eat. Poor girl.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

Yes. She will go to one and whichever hen is closest will run over and chase her. Then if she goes to another feeder, any hen that sees her heading there will chase her off. Sometimes she can sneak a few pellets, but as soon as any hen notices her eating they chase her off. It is super weird.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

All the other 6 hens are chasing her away, not just one. Which one do I take out? I can't tell which is the lead hen.

Flock won't allow hen to eat

Hi! I have a small flock of 7 hens. One hen is in the middle of a hard molt, and for 3 nights in a row her crop was empty and her poops were just water. After observing the flock for a bit I found that all the other hens were chasing her away from all the food sources whenever she tried to eat...
