Hi everyone! I just wanted to follow up on this post and thank everyone who had commented and helped me find my big partridge boi! This thread helped me get there! I posted to the photo contest and realized I never followed up here and wanted to show you all the roo that I ended up finding in...
I think the switch them out with the eggs in the night plan could work! just keep a heat lamp and area you can keep them if it doesn't work! also dont forget you need chick food for them :-) here is a post from another backyard chicken-er on this topic: Chicks under a broody hen.
Why is this so difficult? Maybe someone here can see what sex my little birds are... Chukar #1 is the more petite one, the body and head are smaller but it has little bumps where spurs would be. Chukar #2 has a larger body... more block headed but zero spur bump... I asked the vet and they say...
To me- you should 100% hands down get chicks. It’s a great experience and the right way to start if these birds are going to be your pets, why wouldn’t you want to watch them grow and create bonds from the very beginning? I personally grew up w chickens and the chicks were always the best part...
Hi! Congratulations on finding gold partridge brahmas! Are they all grown up now? I have been searching the US and am finding they are like... almost extinct here! Do you know of any breeders?
hi there! that was a very knowledgeable response! do you breed brahmas? or do know where I can find a gold partridge cockerel & pullet girlfriend to purchase?
Is there any way to see who posted the specific photos? There is a gold brahma roo in that last photo and I am trying to track one down to have as the leader of my flock! Could anyone point me in the right direction? Side note: people have corrected me and said they're "gold partridge brahma"...
My Dad is a tree guy up here in NY and part of his job is to spray for insects, he uses this organic spray called EcoVia that is to be diluted and then sprayed around the lawn & property to kill insects, we trust it even with the horses. I wonder if you could just pour some of the concentrated...
Well that is some VERY enticing news! I am in Westchester, NY and I import horses for a living but part of my job is finding road transport for them all over the US, if you do have extra cockerels, would you consider sending one on a truck with horses if I could find him a ride? (with a company...
Chickens really are amazing. And I love the way they interact with each other and how mother hens will make the CUTEST noises to their chicks and show them what to eat and cradle them under their wings. Really SO cool that you might have twins!! I also love what you're saying about your...
Thank you for your concern! I think the extra three will be OK as long as I create enough roosting areas and places for them to lay their eggs. I think creativity with their space is one of the keys to happy hens. If overcrowding becomes a problem I can always bring someone to my grandmother to...
So handsome! And I love the size of the JG!! very tempting for me... and definitely one of the runner ups. I just cant resist the gold and red and black plumage. After my dad's brown leghorn its just hard to go back! I've attached a photo of good ol' OJ here.
Thanks for writing to me! With what I know now about fertile eggs being able to sit at room temp for 7 days... maybe I can just have some eggs shipped from the UK! my co-worker is from England and knew what i was talking about straight away.
Maybe there is hope!
Hi there! From what I have been told by a couple brahma breeders is that there is no such thing as a "gold partridge brahma" and that the color is just called "gold brahma" (so they're the same thing) but I dont really care what they're called, I just know I love the way it looks!
Hi there! I have sent this on to a few people since reading- wow. Eggs are INCREDIBLE! and a little bit weird. I will try to refrain from telling my husband that eggs that have been in the refrigerator might be able to make a chicken... haha!
Thank you for your response- really that's so cool.
