Due to some issues with predators, I'm looking into buying a coop to protect my chickens at night (they'll be 3 chickens only).
Options are limited here in South Africa, but this one company makes good quality (but pricey) ones
I'm thinking of buying this one...
Yes that's a good idea. I'll start looking for a premade coop + run so I can get it set up quickly. The predator is already here feasting on the carcasse as I type. It's a protected species too, so I can't do much about it :he
UPDATE :
I found the rest of the chicken carcasse hanging from a tree in the yard. Waited until this evening and sure enough caught the culprit coming for seconds.
As far as I can tell it's an African genet (a type of mongoose ) . I would upload a photo if I knew how to.

Yes, it's tempting to get more of them.
But again, I don't know what killed it and if I can protect them.
What predator would attackaat night, eat the whole chicken and leave the head?

Guinea fowls could be a good solution. My yard is a bit small (15x15feet) so not a lot of room for the fowls and I think they need more space.

Hi all, this morning I woke up to find scattered feathers on the ground and the head of the victim on the other side of the yard.
She was a young black bantam but robust fast and feisty. Her "sister", a silkie is now lonely and scared. It's my only remaining chicken.
